- “One document can change someone’s life for the better” is the opening sentence of a new short documentary produced by the Education Department on the Project “European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR)”.
The video presents the EQPR as a tool supporting refugees’ integration into their host societies and it features interviews with representatives of the Council of Europe and UNHCR, the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees, representatives of local authorities, NGOs working with refugees and universities. Three refugees, EQPR holders, share their experiences and expectations for the future in the video.

- On 23 November 2018 the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) launched a new initiative to counter sexism, harassment, and violence against women in parliaments.
The study was based on conversations with 123 women from 45 European countries. 81 were members of parliament. 42 were members of parliamentary staff.
Researchers found evidence of widespread sexism, abuse and violence against women in parliaments. The aim of the study is to break the silence and taboos in order to tackle the problem.

- This satellite event took place in the Philippines. Entitled ‘Civil conversation for peace building’, it focused on conversation in order to foster essential dialogue about the possibilities, rights, and responsibilities of thoughtful and engaged citizenship.
It was based on the assumption that division and disempowerment have hindered the essential core values of democracy, human rights, and rule of law upon which Philippine society is founded. And that silencing and marginalisation of voices has resulted in the breakdown in communication within and between communities, effectively undermining possibilities for participatory citizenship in the Philippines.

- Acts of sexism, harassment and violence against women are widespread in parliament. 85 per cent of women MPs say they have suffered from psychological violence in parliament.
Almost half of female politicians and parliamentary staff from across Europe report that they have received threats of death, rape and beating against them, their children and families. One in four women MPs say they have experienced sexual violence.
These are the alarming findings of a new study for which the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe conducted interviews with 123 women from 45 of the Council’s member states.
The study has been sent to the national parliaments of all Council of Europe member states, asking them to set up confidential complaints mechanisms, investigating procedures, as well as disciplinary sanctions against the perpetrators of any form of violence against women MPs and female parliamentary staff. ...
