“I eventually wanted to work for myself full time,” Kaimins told CNBC Travel. “I had booked a few events for the summer, so took the leap to start my own studio.”
Covid-19 lockdowns expedited the process. As in-person events were canceled, Kaimins focused on weekly flower deliveries and walk-in flower sales until she could build up her wedding and events business again.
Many of Kaimins’ neighbors have similar stories of pandemic-era side hustles that evolved into full-time careers.

Chinese electric car company Xpeng on Tuesday announced that its mass-market brand Mona will start selling some models for less than $17,000.

- Whether planned or unplanned, an Olympic athlete's retirement is unavoidable.
"It's the one inevitability. It doesn't matter how successful you are as an athlete or how long or short your career is. Once you start, the one guarantee is that at some point it will stop," said Katherine Grainger, a former Olympic rower and Chair of UK Sport.
While Grainger was able to retire on her own terms, other elite athletes like Andrew Steele did not.
The former British sprinter won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics, but he narrowly missed out on the London Summer Games due to an injury at the start of the year.
"Missing out on London in 2012 was almost like a death of a close family member. It was so traumatic, because my entire identity was tied to the fact that I was an Olympic athlete," Steele told CNBC Sport.

- Two Japanese companies have teamed up to achieve one big goal: producing hydrogen on the moon.
Takasago Thermal Engineering has designed a mini electrolyzer that can adapt to low gravity and endure a rocket’s intense vibrations during liftoff. Once in space, the hydrogen-making machine will be operated remotely from ispace’s Mission Control Centre in Tokyo.
“We started to study hydrogen almost 20 years ago. Now, we are developing a large-scale electrolyzer. What we do in space would give us definite technology and skills to... differentiate from the competitors,” said Hiroyuki Muraoka, Takasago Thermal Engineering’s executive officer, in an interview with “CNBC Tech: The Edge.”
For the mission scheduled to launch by the end of 2024, Takasago is bringing a small amount of Earth water for the electrolysis. If the experiment goes as planned, the company will scale up and eventually make hydrogen from lunar water on upcoming missions.

- About two hours away from the UK's capital in the Cotswolds, ZeroAvia has an R&D facility where it's assembling and developing fuel cell systems, integrating hydrogen electric engines into aircraft and testing them in the air.
It's all part of an effort to decarbonize aviation with hydrogen, which has earned ZeroAvia a spot in TIME Magazine's top Greentech companies list.
"ZeroAvia is solving the climate emission problem caused by aviation. We're developing engines that run on hydrogen to generate electricity and power aircraft without emissions," said James McMicking, Chief Strategy Officer at ZeroAvia, in an interview with 'CNBC Tech: The Edge'.
Displayed in the hangar during CNBC's visit was a Dornier 228. The aircraft has been retrofitted with a leftside propeller powered by a hydrogen-electric engine and used in ten flight tests.
