- International photo agencies have taken down a picture of the Princess of Wales and her children.
Taken by Prince William for Mother's Day, it was the first image of Princess Catherine to be released by Kensington Palace since her surgery in January.
But, Getty Images, AFP, Reuters and Associated Press have all retracted the photo over concerns it has been "manipulated".
“At closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image,” AP said in a notice to customers.
“Clients please be advised that the following story has been killed and should no longer be used”.

- A trial of off-peak tube and train fares will start today and run for three months, as part of a trial aimed at encouraging commuters back to the city centre.
The experiment will run between March 8 and May 31, covering pay-as-you-go contactless and oyster fares on London’s Underground and rail network, as well as parts of the South East.
It was announced by Mayor Sadiq Khan in late January after he struck a deal with private operators to slash peak fares. Some £24m has been allocated from the Mayoral budget to cover the cost of off-peak tube fares for TfL and national rail operators.

- The gap between the amount invested by men and women widened again this year to £567bn, £54bn more than last year and largely due to young men investing far more than young women.
Only nine per cent of women aged 18-24 invest, compared to 22 per cent of young men, research conducted by Boring Money that surveyed 6,486 adults found.
It persists throughout all age groups, reaching its widest between 25-34, with 18 per cent of women that age investing compared to 37 per cent of men.
The report from Boring Money also highlighted the importance of the gender pay gap in creating the investment gap, noting that the average personal income in the UK is £24,000 for women and £32,000 for men.

The Chancellor unveiled the measure- worth £10bn – as the centrepiece of a pre-election package of measures aimed at winning back waning Tory support, which also saw him scrap the current tax system for so-called non-doms, citing “Nigel Lawson’s… great tax reforming Budget of 1988”.
It will be replaced by a residency-based system which will see new arrivals enjoy a more generous regime for the first four years – before transitioning to “pay the same taxes as other UK residents”.

Swift’s pricier-than-average movie tickets led to the highest daily average amount for debit card transactions at UK cinemas in 2023, reaching £24.

- A first electric coach service will be launched in England and Wales, as part of a three-month trial led by the travel tech firm FlixBus.
Travellers will be able to try out routes between London, Bristol and Newport in South Wales from June 2024. Ticket prices will start at £2.99 and the 46-seat coach includes USB charging points, free wifi and a toilet.
The zero-emission vehicle will save 352kg of carbon emissions per day compared to its diesel-fuelled counterparts, the equivalent of a reduction of more than 21 tonnes of CO2.

- The UK government has backed a landmark ruling from the equalities watchdog saying employers must “understand their legal duties” over the menopause – or face being sued.
Mims Davies MP, the minister for disabled people, health and work exclusively told City A.M. that it is “good for business” if firms make changes to accommodate women going through menopause.
This comes after new guidance was issued by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission on Wednesday, “setting out employer’s legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010”, with regard to the menopause.

- London Cocktail Club owner Nightcap has bought The Piano Works in its latest bid for expansion, but warned that trading in 2024 had been “far softer” than expected.
The AIM-listed bar operator will pay a total consideration of £200,000 for The Piano Works. The firm said it raised £1m through a share subscription to provide working capital and funds for the acquisition.
The Piano Works was launched in 2015 in a Victorian warehouse in Farringdon. It is a live music venue where artists perform an “audience curated playlist” alongside food and drinks.

- Buyer interest is on the rise once more, signalling the emergence of green shoots in the UK’s property market.
House sales in the first six weeks of 2024 are 16 per cent higher than over the same period last year, and three per cent higher than pre-pandemic.
According to the latest reading from Rightmove, house prices rose by 0.9 per cent in February to £362k. In London, house prices still remain the most expensive throughout the UK, with the cost of a property up 2.8 per cent to £682k.
Average house prices are also up by 0.1 per cent compared to last year, following annual falls in every month since August 2023.

- HSBC is set to nearly double its annual profits on the back of higher interest rates as it shrugs off concerns about its exposure to China’s stagnating economy and stock market.
The Asia-focused giant will report its full-year results next Wednesday, with company-compiled analyst estimates forecasting a surge in pretax profit to $34.1bn (£27.2bn), from $17.5bn (£14bn) in 2022.
Britain’s biggest lenders have benefited from a jump in net interest income (NII) – the difference between what a bank pays out to savers and receives in interest from loans – since late 2021 as the Bank of England hiked borrowing costs in an effort to slow down inflation.
However, the final quarter of 2023 is expected to show more pressure on banks’ net interest margins as rates have likely peaked and lenders come under pressure to offer savers better deals.

- The UK slipped into a recession at the end of last year after a poor performance from the dominant service sector pushed the economy into contraction, new figures show.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK economy shrunk 0.1 per cent in December meaning it contracted 0.3 per cent over the fourth quarter of last year, a worse performance than economists had expected.
The figures showed that the economy performed less well than initially thought in October and November, with the ONS revising its estimates for output in both months.

Across the UK, the number of people seeking treatment for screen-based addictions has grown by more than 100% in three years, new figures reveal.
This comes from The Priory, a specialist clinic in mental health and addiction services, which has seen 2023 treatment enquiry figures – for addictions including gaming, gambling, internet or social media, and porn addiction – show a 118 per cent increase in volume since 2020.
Meanwhile, previous studies have estimated that, globally, 210 million people suffer from internet and social media addiction.
