- The Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, has announced changes under the Motor Car and Auxiliary Bicycles (Miscellaneous) Amendment Act 2026, aimed at reducing costs, paperwork and unnecessary delays for motorists.
Starting Monday, October 19, most motorists renewing their driver's licence will no longer need a doctor's medical certificate. Instead, they can complete an online Personal Medical Declaration.
Additional changes include:
• Fewer inspections for new private cars during their first five years, subject to licensing requirements.
• More flexible vehicle licensing options of 1, 3 or 6 months in special circumstances, along with installment payment options.
• Annual inspections instead of six-monthly inspections for public service vehicles.
Medical certificates will still be required for drivers aged 70 and over and in certain other circumstances.

- Today in the House of Assembly, Minister of Public Works and Environment, the Hon. Jaché A. Adams, JP, MP, provided an update on the Swing Bridge Replacement Project.
The new bridge will replace the existing structure, which has served Bermuda for more than 60 years, providing a safer, modern and more reliable connection to the East End for motorists, pedestrians, buses and emergency vehicles. The new bridge will also be able to open, restoring access through Ferry Reach for larger vessels.
Preparatory roadworks and temporary traffic changes are already underway, with the current Swing Bridge remaining operational until the replacement bridge is completed and open to traffic. The Ministry is also evaluating submissions received through the procurement process for construction of the new bridge.
