- [ENGLISH] CDC supports the Health Connection project in Maré, a large informal urban community (also known as a ‘favela’) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The project was established in 2020 to ensure that community members got the information, guidance, and resources they needed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside other partners, CDC contributed funding and was later asked to help study the long-term consequences of COVID-19 and vaccine uptake for other infectious diseases. The Health Connection project continues to serve as a model for how public health partners can work together, engage with communities, and better address people’s needs in similar communities.
