Tanner Horner pleaded guilty to all charges in the 2022 murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand. The jury is taking a break after enduring graphic video and audio evident on Thursday of Athena's final moments. The jury will return Wednesday, April 22 to hear the Horner's defense team try to make the case against Horner receiving the death penalty in the sentencing phase of the trial.
This case led to the "Athena Alert" which is intended to close the gap between the time a child vanishes and a statewide AMBER Alert may be issued. This allows law enforcement the ability to quickly notify the local public of a missing child even if the case doesn't meet the criteria for an AMBER Alert.
