Clarification: The latest report from the Parliamentary Budget Office on the carbon tax estimates that by 2030, Nova Scotians will be netting an average of $313 a year, even as the rate per tonne increases. These estimates, however, only consider individual costs and rebates. The PBO says the carbon tax also affects the broader economy by lowering employment and investment income. The report says when these economic elements are factored in, there would be a net cost for the average Nova Scotia household by 2030. Additionally, some people criticize the carbon tax as a contributor to inflation.
