- What is 'feels like' temperature? Senior meteorologist Andrea Peace explains.
- Runtime
- 1:10
- Date posted
- Description
- This afternoon in Darwin the temperature was 26°C, however the 'feels like' temperature was 31°C degrees, because it was so humid.
Contrary to this, in Hobart this afternoon, the temperature was 21°C, but the 'feels like' temperature was only 16°C. This is because the air was much drier, and the wind was fresh.
The 'feels like' temperature, also known as 'apparent temperature', takes into account wind chill and humidity to calculate how an average person would feel outside in the elements.

- Dry lightning occurs when a thunderstorm is generating lightning is producing little, if any, rain at ground level – the rain is mostly evaporating before it reaches the ground.
Dry lightning can start fires and the gusty winds connected with the storm can spread the flames and make existing fires harder to control – all without the relieving rain that thunderstorm might otherwise bring.
