A violent and obsessed abuser has been jailed for 18 years after stabbing his partner and two other people following a row over a lottery ticket. Nathaniel Downer, aged 41 of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.
Downer told an elaborate series of lies in an attempt to evade justice following the attack on his long-suffering partner. He calmly stood outside the scene of the crime smoking a cigarette when the police arrived.

Melanie Topping’s disability accessible camper van was in for repairs when Bristol City Council’s contractors created a ‘modal filter’ near her home in Redfield, so Thursday lunchtime was the first time she had attempted to reach her home and the designated parking spot outside it in the vehicle.
There has long been a one-way and no entry system near her home at the end of Victoria Avenue, and previously she has been able to drive her large, specially-adapted camper van down other streets further to the east to get onto Victoria Avenue.

The sister of Luis Piovesana has shared her family's devastation after a body was found during the search for her brother. The 26-year-old went missing on Friday, February 28 after he was last seen on CCTV at around 3.30am at Eastgate Retail Park, sparking intense searches in Bristol across the weekend.
More than 100 police officers and staff were involved in the search to find Luis, which continued throughout the day on Monday, March 3. After a day of searching, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a body had been found in the River Frome.

More than 100 police officers have been drafted into the search for Luis Piovasana who went missing from Bristol on Friday, February 28. Searches have continued today (Monday, March 3), with officers, volunteers and rescue teams searching the St Werburgh's area and the river near the M32.
Luis, 26, was reported missing in Bristol on the morning of Friday, February 28 and has not been seen since. A timeline of his final movements, pieced together by friends, reveals he got into a taxi near Jam Jars in St Jude's at around 2.55am before exiting less than five minutes later. While in the taxi, at 2.59am he made a call to his partner and left a distressing voicemail.

Searches are continuing today (Monday, March 3) to find a missing man from Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police are "extremely worried" about Luis Piovesana who was last seen at Eastgate Retail Park during early hours of last Friday morning (February 28).
An Avon and Somerset Police Underwater Search Unit is at the retail park this morning as the force continue to look for the missing 26-year-old. Police previously said CCTV shows Luis, who also has links to Frenchay in South Gloucestershire, travelling on foot around the retail park shortly after 3am.

A number plate similar to one that was dubbed 'offensive' by the DVLA has been spotted for sale on the DVLA's website. Just last week, BristolLive reported that the DVLA had given its final ruling about a number plate belonging to Bristol Rovers fans, with the authority telling the couple that they would no longer be able to use it.
The number plate 'N14 GAS' was purchased from the DVLA in 1997 by married couple Jackie and John Cooke, from Frampton Cotterell in North Bristol. It symbolised 'number one for The Gas', the Gas being the nickname of their favourite football team.

An electric car has been smashed up with a pole in a protest against Elon Musk. A witness to the incident filmed a man, described as being in his 40s, using a "big pole" to smash the £44,950 Polestar car, on Monday, February 24.
Before the incident on Kings Square Avenue near Stokes Croft, the man was seen holding a homemade sign which said he was protesting against Musk, and his electric car company, Tesla. However, Polestar is a subsidiary of Volvo Car Group and Geely, a Chinese multinational company which is a rival to Tesla not associated with Musk.

Witnesses have said they heard screams during the fatal dog attack in south Bristol yesterday evening

Now the conversation charity and award-winning zoo is calling for help to raise £175,000 to support the build of its new tiger habitat and Aqua’s ongoing care. Sir Keir Starmer has promised sweeping sanctions to heap pressure on Russia and get President Vladimir Putin “not just to talk, but to make concessions”.
The Prime Minister said US President Donald Trump has “changed the global conversation” on Ukraine but that this provided an “opportunity” as world leaders marked the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
He repeated calls for Ukraine to have a seat at the table for any peace talks and for a US “backstop” to any peace agreement, which he is expected to discuss with Mr Trump when he visits Washington later this week.
