- Earlier this year, a young Nigerian went viral after saying he would rather be a donkey in Malawi than a graduate in Nigeria.
He wasn't alone. Another young man made headlines after taking to the streets of Abuja with a placard declaring that he had a BA, MSc and PhD - but still couldn't find a job.
So, why are so many young Nigerian graduates struggling to find work?
Is the problem with Nigeria's education system, the economy, or something else?
Focus on Africa podcast host, Nkechi Ogbonna, travels to Lagos to hear from people on different sides of the issue: Olamide Adeyeye, who heads a job-search platform; 23-year-old Titilayo Nwosu, a plant biotechnology graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University; and Dr Suraj, a lecturer at the University of Lagos.
Together, they explore the challenges facing Nigeria's graduates and ask what needs to change to give young people a better chance of finding meaningful employment.

- Former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is running for president in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has told the BBC that opposition parties are working towards a possible alliance ahead of the election. In an interview with the BBC’s Madina Maishanu, Mr Atiku rejected suggestions that the opposition’s failure to unite so far reflects divisions, saying it was part of a strategy.
A proposed alliance between Mr Atiku and Peter Obi had broken down, raising questions about whether the opposition can agree on a single candidate capable of mounting a strong challenge to President Bola Tinubu, who is seeking a second term.
