- Vladimir Putin is in Beijing for a summit with the Chinese president Xi Jinping - a man he describes as his "long-time friend". The two leaders have met dozens of times over the years, cultivating an alliance between Russia and China which officials have called a "friendship with no limits".
Our Russia editor Steve Rosenberg tells us that both countries are keen to challenge the notion that the US is the world's dominant superpower. On this trip - which comes just days after President Donald Trump visited Beijing - Mr Putin and Mr Xi are expected to sign a "Declaration on the Emergence of a Multipolar World", according to Russian media.
They are also expected to discuss a planned gas pipeline, called the Power of Siberia 2, or Altai.
But the relationship between Moscow and Beijing is complicated. China has emerged as the more economically and diplomatically powerful partner, and each nation is forging its own ties with Washington. Mr Trump has s...

- Rape claims involving Channel 4's Married at First Sight (MAFS) UK show are "serious" and there must be consequences for "criminality or wrongdoing", the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has said.
A BBC Panorama investigation revealed allegations two women had been raped during filming, while a third said she had been the victim of a non-consensual sex act.
In a statement released shortly after BBC News broke the story on Monday, Channel 4 said it had commissioned an external review of welfare on the show last month "after being presented with serious allegations of wrongdoing".
Lawyers for CPL, an independent production company which makes the UK version of the show, said its welfare system was "gold standard" and industry-leading, and that it had acted appropriately in all these cases.
Channel 4's CEO Priya Dogra expressed sympathy to contributors who had "clearly been distressed after taking part in Married at First Sigh...

- Description
- The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who declared the outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo an international emergency last week, said he was "deeply concerned about the scale and speed of the epidemic".
Officials said more than 513 cases were suspected in the country as of Tuesday, while one person has died in neighbouring Uganda.
It is feared the outbreak may have been ongoing for several weeks before it was first detected on 24 April.
There is no vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus fuelling the latest rise in cases, but the WHO is evaluating whether other drugs may provide protection.

- How worried should we be about the Ebola "emergency"? | Global News Podcast
- Runtime

- Description
- The World Health Organization has declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo to be a "public health emergency of international concern". Officials say at least 91 people have died in the central African country, and there are more than 350 suspected cases. The current outbreak of Ebola is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which there are no approved drugs or vaccines.
We ask the BBC's health and science correspondent James Gallager how worried the world should be about the spread of Ebola.
The WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said there are "significant uncertainties" about the scale of the outbreak. At least one person has died of Ebola in Uganda - the DRC's neighbour to the northeast. Another neighbour, Rwanda, has increased screening at the border. And at least six Americans who were exposed to the Ebola virus in the DRC may be taken to a US military base in Germany for treatment.

If this highly strategic city falls, Moscow will be able to push towards the last remaining Ukrainian strongholds in the Donbas region – Kramatorsk and Sloviansk – from the north, east and south.
But warfare in the region has a new look, with drone attacks now the primary choice of weapon for both sides.
