- Local interest in EVs is expected to surge in the next five years.
That’s according to Justin Inniss, the Commercial Retail Director at Inchcape, who said electric vehicles are becoming increasingly suited to Barbados as the island continues its transition toward cleaner energy.
During an interview with Barbados TODAY, he pointed to government mandates aimed at making Barbados fossil fuel free, along with duty concessions on electric and hybrid vehicles, as key drivers of the shift.
Inniss also noted that concerns about “range anxiety” are less significant locally, as EVs can travel around the island several times without needing to recharge.
His comments came during the Charged event in Warrens on Friday, March 6, 2026, where several new electric vehicles, including the Deepal S05, Suzuki eVitara, and Jeep Avenger, along with the hybrid Suzuki ACROSS, were introduced.

“Hard work does not kill you; it makes you stronger,” Debra says, echoing the wisdom of her 97-year-old mother. Despite the challenges of running a business and the difficulty of trusting others, she remains motivated by the freedom that comes with earning her own way. Her philosophy is simple: do not wait for opportunities to come to you – get up and go after them.
Whether offering help to someone in need or sharing advice with others, Debra believes true success is built on grit, a positive attitude, and the courage to depend on yourself.
She sums herself up in three words: “I am happy.” A simple but powerful reminder that independence can be its own reward.
