Will it be suffocation or beatings, waterboarding or electric shocks - the Wheel of Torture decides.
It was discovered in 2014 that police in Laguna, Philippines were using a 'wheel of torture' to decide which torture techniques to use on prisoners shocked the world. 28 January 2015 marks the one year anniversary of when the 'Wheel of torture' was first discovered during a routine visit by the Philippines Commission on Human Rights.
The ‘Wheel of torture’ was loosely based on the popular 1980’s game show ‘Wheel of fortune’. To mark the anniversary, we have produced a video that is a satirical take on the show, recreating the exciting, family atmosphere but contestants spin the wheel of torture. One contestant spins the wheel to try and win a lawyer, but ends up landing on Manny Pacman (beatings).

The chemical leak occurred on the night of 2–3 December 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The authorities subsequently released figures in 2006 detailing that the disaster caused 558,125 injuries including 38,478 temporary partial injuries and approximately 3,900 severely and permanently disabling injuries.
In 2001, Dow acquired Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), the US-based multinational that was majority owner of the company that operated the plant at the time of the leak. The Dow Chemical Company must stop dodging its responsibility towards the survivors of the Bhopal disaster

- On 7 August 2012 at 3am, navy soldiers broke into Claudia Medina's home in Veracruz City. Her hands were tied and she was blind-folded before being put in a pick-up truck and taken to the local naval base.
Claudia was accused of being a member of a violent criminal gang which she denied. According to her testimony, she was given electric shocks before being beaten and kicked. Afterwards, she was tied to a chair and left in the scorching afternoon sun.
The next day Claudia was blindfolded and transferred with a group of other detainees to the Federal Attorney General's Office. The lead up to the World Cup has prompted large scale demonstrations and public protests to which the police have responded with use of force, and in some cases "less lethal" weapons such as tear gas and rubber bullets.
Protests are likely to continue in coming weeks and the Brazilian Congress is considering new laws that could be used to crack down on protesters. Additionally, inadequate regulations and training for policing demonstrations pose a risk of more injuries to protesters due to excessive use of force by police.
Everyone has the right to peaceful protest -- to exercise their human rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly - and the Brazilian Government has a duty to ensure that they can. That's why we are giving the Brazilian Government a yellow card!

International peacekeepers have failed to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Muslim civilians in the western part of the Central African Republic, Amnesty International said in a report issued today.
To protect the country's remaining Muslim communities, international peacekeeping forces must break the control of anti-balaka militias and station sufficient troops in towns where Muslims are threatened.

They destroy livelihoods and social networks, and drive people deeper into poverty often resulting in many becoming homeless and destitute. This is why Amnesty International and WITNESS, along with the design firm Pentagram, got together to produce this short animation showing how governments and corporations forcibly evict people.

- Pakistani schoolgirl and education rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai and American singer, human rights and social justice activist Harry Belafonte were announced as Amnesty International's Ambassadors of Conscience for 2013.
The award is Amnesty International's highest honour, recognizing individuals who have championed human rights through their life and by example. It was presented at a ceremony on Tuesday evening at the Mansion House, Dublin, Ireland.
The 2013 honourees join the other exceptional individuals who have been recognized as Ambassadors of Conscience since the award was established: Vaclav Havel (2003); Mary Robinson and Hilda Morales Trujillo (2004); U2 and Paul McGuinness (2005); Nelson Mandela (2006); Peter Gabriel (2008); and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (awarded 2009, presented 2012).

- A few years ago, the Ecuadorian government gave an oil company permission to drill for oil on land belonging to the Sarayaku Indigenous Community. The Sarayaku were never consulted and they have been fighting the decision ever since. This film shows them take their struggle to the highest regional court in the Americas. If they win, the court's decision will benefit Sarayaku and many other Indigenous groups across the region. It will send a powerful message to all governments asking them to consult with Indigenous communities and request their consent before carrying out development projects that may affect their lives.
