Alabama gets another warm and mostly sunny start, but the pattern is starting to nudge. A slow-moving front is easing southeast toward the state and will stall Friday and Saturday, and the ridge that has been suppressing storms begins to weaken. A few showers are already rolling in off the Gulf along the southwestern coast this morning.
Temperatures are already hitting 90 in spots, and highs will settle into the low to mid 90s statewide, with Tuscaloosa and Florence flirting with the upper 90s. Dewpoints have crept back into the low 70s, so the muggy feel is coming back.
Showers and storms fire mainly across South Alabama this afternoon, particularly Mobile, Washington, and Baldwin counties. Coverage jumps Friday afternoon as the ridge breaks down. A few showers or rumbles could be around Friday night high school footbal...

Alabama starts Thursday with clear skies and plenty of heat ahead. Highs reach the low to upper 90s across much of the state, with only a few isolated showers or storms, mainly over the southern half. A new Regions SkyCam Network view from Lookout Mountain offers a beautiful start over Fort Payne.
The ridge weakens a little Friday and Saturday, allowing scattered showers and thunderstorms to become more common. Friday night football could see a passing shower or storm, especially during the first half, while Saturday's college games may also feature a few interruptions. It will not rain everywhere, but Saturday brings the best coverage.
Showers thin out Sunday as the ridge rebuilds, and the heat returns next week with highs over 90 on most days. The tropics are quiet at the climatological peak of hurricane season, with no trop...

Alabama is rain-free this Wednesday evening and clear statewide after a hot, quiet day. Temperatures are mostly in the low and mid 90s, including 94 in Birmingham and 95 in Tuscaloosa, while the Gulf Coast is near 90 with muggy air. A new Regions SkyCam Network view from Lookout Mountain gives us a beautiful look over Fort Payne and DeKalb County.
A few scattered showers and storms return Thursday, mainly across the southern counties, but many communities will stay dry. Coverage increases Friday and Saturday, with a few showers or storms possible around Friday night football and during the weekend. There is no organized setup highlighted, but any storm can produce lightning and gusty winds.
The ridge remains firmly in control, so highs stay at or above 90 through next week. Storm coverage should thin early next week as the rid...

The radar is empty across Alabama this afternoon, and that is no accident. A push of drier air showing up plainly on water vapor has moved in on top of the ridge, keeping showers and thunderstorms suppressed statewide.
Highs are running warm but not oppressive, with most spots in the low-mid 90s. There are still a few heat index readings around 100, but the widespread triple digit heat index values from last week are gone.
Overnight lows will settle into the low to mid 70s, with a few spots in the northeast dipping back into the upper 60s. Tomorrow looks similar to today with maybe a degree or two of warming, and a better chance of a few isolated showers/storms mainly in South Alabama.
Friday and Saturday, a front approaches from the north and stalls, and the added lift boosts shower and storm coverage. Friday ...

Alabama sits under sunshine and puffy cumulus at midday with no rain to speak of. A few showers are trying to sneak up out of South Georgia toward the southeastern counties later, and offshore storms should stay offshore, but for most of the state today is another warm and mostly dry one.
Temperatures are already running a degree or two warmer than yesterday at this hour. Hamilton and Tuscaloosa are at 90, Sulligent 91, Demopolis 90, Thomasville 89, Auburn 86, Eufaula 85, and Gulf Shores 86. Dewpoints are still on the friendlier side across North Alabama, mostly in the 60s, which is why the mornings have felt a touch more comfortable this week.
A front is easing toward the state from the northwest and should stall in Tennessee, but it will help ramp up shower and storm coverage Thursday and especially Friday and Saturday. Frid...

Wednesday starts clear and comfortable across Alabama, with morning temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s. The state heats up quickly today, with highs in the low to mid 90s and only about a 10 percent chance of rain for any one spot.
A stubborn upper ridge keeps the heat locked in through the weekend and into next week. Widely scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms become a little more likely Thursday through Sunday, mainly across the southern half of the state, generally between noon and 9 PM.
The first real fall front may still be at least two weeks away, while the tropics remain remarkably quiet for September. North and South Alabama both stay in the low to mid 90s for the next seven days, with morning lows in the 70s.

Muscle Shoals, Florence, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia all picked up healthy downpours, with some flooding around Muscle Shoals, and Florence has cooled to 77 behind the rain. Most of the rest of the state stayed dry, and East Alabama has been the lower humidity winner, thanks to a wedge front that pushed drier air in from the east.
You can feel that split on the map tonight. Auburn sits at 86, Dothan at 89 with a dewpoint of 65, and Montgomery is at 89 with noticeably drier air. West of I-65 the muggy feel hangs on, with Selma at 95, Mobile at 89 with dewpoints back in the 70s, and Fairhope at 93 under a bright sky over Mobile Bay.
Also worth noting on this peak day of the Atlantic hurricane season: there are no hurricanes or tropical storms expected anywhere in the basin over the next 7 days. Gulf Shores is sitting at 88 under a ne...

North Alabama has been the busy spot this afternoon. A cell over north central Lauderdale County dropped a couple of inches of rain in about an hour, prompting an earlier flash flood warning, and steady rain is still working across the Florence and Muscle Shoals area with a gust to 28 mph. A few more showers are scattered from Fayette to Tuscaloosa, but most of the rest of the state is dry.
The heat has backed off compared to last week. Tuscaloosa did hit 101 yesterday, breaking the daily record of 100 from 1980, but today most spots are running in the low 90s. Birmingham is at 93, Tuscaloosa 91, Monroeville 93, and rain-cooled Cullman is down to 81. Dewpoints have dropped into the 60s across the east, with Auburn at 65 and Dothan at 66, so eastern and northeastern Alabama will feel a little more comfortable tonight and tomorrow morning.<...

An easterly wind is dragging slightly drier air in around the top of a high to the northeast, and it shows up on the numbers. Cullman, Gadsden, and Greenville are all at 81, Anniston at 84, and even Montgomery only at 83, a bit cooler than the mornings we ran last week. Dewpoints have dropped into the upper 60s across the north and east, so the mugginess is easing at the same time in those areas.
Highs today land in the 90 to 95 degree range statewide, with the low 90s common in the north and mid 90s down south. That is still a hair above average for early September, but a big step down from the upper 90s and triple digits of last week. - Meteorologist James Spann brings your Alabama Weather Network statewide forecast for Monday evening, September 7, 2026.
Alabama ends Labor Day with a split weather story. Drier air kept the Tennessee Valley mostly rain-free, while showers and storms focused south of I-20 and west of I-65.
Temperatures ranged from the low and mid 80s in east Alabama to the upper 90s around Demopolis and Thomasville, with coastal spots near 90. The Gulf Coast stayed mostly sunny this evening after a waterspout passed south of Pensacola Beach early today.
Tuesday brings more of the same: highs in the low and mid 90s with isolated afternoon showers or storms. There is no organized severe-weather risk in the forecast, but any storm can produce a brief gust. The ridge shifts a little west, so heat is more bearable than last week, while many locations see no rain.
Storm coverage may increase Friday and Saturday as a weak front approaches from the north. Even...

Drier air has locked in from Anniston and Gadsden east and north, keeping storms from firing there. Labor Day is off to a clear start across most of the state, with a bright blue sky and just a little upper-level cloud cover away from the coast. A few showers and storms are firing up along the beaches, and the Regions SkyCam Network caught a waterspout off Orange Beach this morning during sunrise.
Highs today top out in the low to mid 90s statewide, cooler than yesterday's triple digits in a few spots. Dew points still sit in the mid to upper 70s, so heat index values across the western half will feel like the triple digits again, while the eastern half will feel closer to the actual 90s as drier northerly flow starts to work in behind the front.

The showers and a few storms that popped up this afternoon are fizzling with sunset, and most of the state stayed dry anyway. Spots that caught a downpour got a real break, but everyone else stayed hot. Even now, plenty of thermometers around Alabama are still sitting in the 90s as the sun goes down.

Alabama is still baking this afternoon. A few isolated showers have popped up here and there, mostly across the Tennessee Valley, west Alabama, and a handful of spots in the central counties, but nothing widespread and nothing severe. If you got wet, you got a small break. Everybody else is sitting under bright sun and calm winds with the heat doing its thing.
Central and west Alabama are the hottest zones today, with triple digits showing up in a few places. Heat index values are running above 105 in enough spots to keep the Heat Advisory going for the northern two-thirds of the state through Saturday evening. The coast is the one part of the state getting any real relief, thanks to a light breeze coming off the Gulf.
The bigger story is how stubborn this pattern is. The ridge overhead has locked in, rain has been hard ...

Another scorcher is already underway. It is 96 in Birmingham, 95 in Tuscaloosa, 94 in Montgomery, and 91 in Huntsville before noon, with dewpoints in the 70s pushing feels-like values into the triple digits. Highs today land in the upper 90s, and Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and Selma could flirt with 100 again. Down at the coast, Mobile is a slightly milder 86 but plenty muggy with dewpoints near 80.
Yesterday brought some record heat. Montgomery tied its record at 99, Birmingham broke its record with 99, and Tuscaloosa broke its record by hitting 101. We are moving into the historical stretch of the 1925 heat wave, so records will be tougher to top in the days ahead, but the heat sticks around.

Alabama sizzled through September 2nd. Tuscaloosa hit 101 earlier today, a record high for the date, before showers cooled it to 93 this evening. Selma and Demopolis are still at 99, Birmingham 97, Fairhope 96 on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Montgomery 96, Walker County 95, and Florence 94. Auburn dropped to 82 after a passing shower, and Mobile is at 87 after a decent downpour earlier.
The tropics are quiet, with TS Edouard remnants over east Texas moving away from us and no impact here. The heat ridge stays parked overhead. Rain chances tomorrow run about 10 to 20 percent statewide, and any showers should be small and short-lived.
Expect more of the same for the next five days. Highs land in the mid to upper 90s, with some west Alabama spots reaching 100 again. Heat index values stay above 100 every afternoon. Saturday's...

It's a sizzling afternoon across the state, with upper 90s in many areas and a few spots hitting 100. A few isolated showers/storms have popped up in central and southwestern parts of the state, but everyone else is dry.
Heat index values are in the triple digits across almost everywhere. A heat advisory runs through Saturday night for the northern two-thirds of Alabama, with the northern half of the state under a major to extreme heat risk for Saturday.
Highs tomorrow stay mid to upper 90s, and rain chances stay slim through Thursday, then coverage nudges up Friday and Saturday, especially across south and southwest Alabama, while north Alabama stays mostly dry. Any storms should be scattered rather than a soaking rain.

Clear skies and 70s are greeting Alabama this morning, but the heat will take over quickly. Highs reach the mid to upper 90s through Sunday, with daily heat indices over 100. A shower is possible, but rain chances are only 10 to 15 percent in the north and 20 to 25 percent in the south, so most communities stay dry.
Saturday's Alabama home game could be one of the hottest on record, with upper 90s likely by the fourth quarter and a heat index near 110. Auburn's game is indoors in Atlanta, and Troy's evening kickoff will come with temperatures falling through the 80s.
Tropical Storm Edouard is inland and dissipating over southeast Texas, well away from Alabama. The ridge remains firmly in place, keeping showers very isolated and the Gulf Coast mostly sunny through Labor Day, with only a passing shower possible.
