- The Fran’s Market Murders: Execution Ordered from Prison | Evil in the Archives: The Case Files
- Runtime
- 3:29
- Date posted
- Description
- Three young lives lost. A hit ordered from behind prison walls. And a case that took decades to reach its final chapter.
In this episode of Evil in the Archives: The Case Files, we revisit the shocking Fran’s Market murders through original television news archives. Investigators say the execution-style killings were carried out by a recently paroled gunman armed with a sawed-off shotgun, acting on orders from convicted murderer Clarence Ray Allen, who was serving time in Folsom Prison.
The victims — Bryon Schletewitz, Josephine Rocha, and Douglas White — were killed one by one at point-blank range inside the store. One employee survived and helped investigators piece together what happened that night.
The case would lead to the arrest of Billy Ray Hamilton, a murder trial moved out of Fresno, and ultimately the execution of Clarence Ray Allen — the oldest inmate ever put to death in California.
