- This year’s Aid for Trade Global Review — to take place from 27 to 29 July — will feature over 50 sessions held in-person at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva or online. Under the theme “Empowering Connected, Sustainable Trade”, the Review will examine the opportunities that digital connectivity provides for economic and export diversification in developing and least-developed countries. It will also explore how the WTO-led Aid for Trade initiative can help empower various economic actors, such as women, to realize these opportunities.

- Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala welcomed Cabo Verde’s Prime Minister, José Ulisses Correia e Silva, to the WTO on 14 July.
They discussed the outcomes of the 12th Ministerial Conference, including a landmark agreement to curb harmful fisheries subsidies, and the way forward for implementing the TRIPS waiver decision for COVID-19 vaccine patents.
The PM outlined some of the particular needs of Cabo Verde and expressed an interest in collaborating with the WTO in areas such as the blue economy, food security, digital economy and climate change.

- The MC12 outcome package on agriculture comprised a Ministerial Declaration on the emergency response to food insecurity and a Ministerial Decision on exempting World Food Programme (WFP) humanitarian food purchases from export prohibitions or restrictions. Both respond to demands from the international community for immediate action by WTO members to address food shortages and soaring food prices and ensure that the most vulnerable can access emergency food aid.
Ambassador Gloria Abraham Peralta of Costa Rica, the Chair of the agriculture negotiations, highlights the importance of the outcomes: "It shows that WTO Members can come together and deliver in a timely manner on one of the most pressing issues of our time, namely food insecurity."

The WTO expects merchandise trade volume growth of 3.0% in 2022 —down from its previous forecast of 4.7% — and 3.4% in 2023.
"The double whammy of the pandemic and the war has disrupted supply chains, increased inflationary pressures, and lowered expectations for output and trade growth," WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said.
The most immediate economic impact of the crisis has been a sharp rise in commodity prices. Despite their small shares in world trade and output, Russia and Ukraine are key suppliers of essential goods including food, energy, and fertilizers. These supplies are now threatened by the war, with potentially dire consequences for food security in poor countries
