- Feedback is always a good thing. It helps show what you're doing wrong, and maybe how you can improve. And it's pretty important for coaches as well. And it's all the more helpful when that feedback comes from an outside perspective. Illinois head coach John Groce is halfway through his second year on the job in Champaign. Groce has quickly won over the hearts of Illini Nation with his passion and overall desire to push the Illini back to national prominence. But what do past Illini think about his performance so far? Last week, the Flyin' Illini were in town for their 25th anniversary, and we asked one of those key players his thoughts on the early stages of the John Groce era. "This year, he's taken a team that wasn't expected to do much, and the early season returns are phenomenal," Kendall Gill, Illinois '90, said. "I said this on social media last week, that we have the markings of one of the all-time great coaches. Much like the coach that I played for in Lou Henson. His players ...

- It came down to the last three seconds, but the Fighting Illini just couldn't find one more bucket, ending their role in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Illini battled back from a 13-poind second half deficit to lead the Wolverines, but a costly possession in which the Illini ran out of time on the shot clock allowed Michigan to take the lead with eight seconds left.
A last-second try by Tracy Abrams may have fallen short, but the Illini were still in high spirits after the game despite the devastating loss.
"If you had told me before the game that we'd have nine turnovers, shoot a higher percentage than them, out-rebound them, beat them 32-18 points in the paint, and beat then on second-chance points 17-7, I would have taken that and ran out of here," Illini coach John Groce said. "So we played really well and executed really well for the majority of the game, just late game--just a play or two here or there."

Williams says the issue is a major problem.

Dozens of law enforcement officers are sweeping the streets of guns, drugs, illegal cash and wanted criminals. It's called Operation Falcon and its creation is a direct result of the slew of recent shootings in the capital city.
More than 60 people were arrested in Operation Falcon, a two-day sting that pulled resources from several different law enforcement agencies.

Since the beginning of March, there have been 26 reports for shots fired on Springfield's east side and seven actual shootings in which a person was hit. They're all related. Investigators say the gunplay stems from two gangs feuding.

Spring is here, and so are the bugs. Pesky bugs called buffalo gnats have returned to central Illinois.
These gnats aren't picky. They like birds, people, and even poultry--pretty much anything with a pulse.
The bugs bite, and oftentimes, the bites are painful.
"We have a lot of products here that can help detain them a little bit, keep them away from you," ACE Hardware Assistant Manager Jackie Austin said. "Probably the most popular is the Buggins, with the vanilla and rose. It's all-natural, it's DEET-free. That's what a lot of people are looking for, especially with children."
Experts say if you get bit by a buffalo gnat, you should wash the area with soap and water. Watch for swelling, which could mean you're having an allergic reaction, and try not to scratch it.

It is a disease that is happening more and more among children. When diabetes strikes during childhood, it is typically assumed to be type one diabetes. But now, both type one and type two diabetes are being diagnosed at an alarming rate.
"Type one diabetes is diabetes that happens when a child or young adult's insulin-producing cells stop making insulin, so it's a disease of insulin deficiency," said Dr. Rebecca Green, an endocrinologist at Springfield Clinic.
Type one diabetes affects an estimated 13,000 children every year. It's a disease that can happen to anyone, much like seventh grader Jacob Hill, who was diagnosed at a young age.

Mansion horticulturist Harry Lewis said the chickens themselves will not be eaten, but they do serve a good purpose.
