- Almost two weeks after people packed a Bethlehem City Council meeting asking for the support of undocumented immigrants, the mayor and police chief have released statements.
Mayor J. William Reynolds and Police Chief Michelle Kott addressed the move of neighboring cities like Allentown that have passed a "welcoming city" ordinance. The mayor and chief say their city already has practices and policies in place to protect its residents.
"We've been meeting with a lot of different community groups and residents who had questions about how changes in federal immigration policy would affect people within the city of Bethlehem," Reynolds told 69 News.

- Debate over immigration enforcement growing in Northampton County
- Date posted

- Description
- A political battle is playing out in Northampton County over its cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie took to the House floor Wednesday night, criticizing the county's policies on cooperation with ICE after the arrest of a suspected gang member outside the county prison.
Mackenzie argues that the county’s current policy limits cooperation with ICE, making it harder for federal agents to detain individuals in the country illegally. He points to the case of Luis Gualdron-Gualdron, a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang, who was arrested for indecent assault on a minor.

- Pet owners urged to check microchip registrations as major company shuts down
- Date posted
- Description
- Microchips may be tiny, but they play a crucial role in reuniting lost pets with their families. Jackie Folsom, Chief Development Officer at the Lehigh Valley Humane Society, emphasizes their importance, explaining that they provide a permanent form of identification for pets—but only if they are properly registered.
"Microchips are small chips, about the size of a grain of rice. They’re inserted under the skin between a pet’s shoulder blades and can be scanned to reveal an identification number. That number links to an owner’s name, phone number, and pet details—if the chip is properly registered," Folsom explains.
However, a major microchip company has unexpectedly shut down, leaving many pet owners in a difficult situation.

Then, Big Blue won only three games and saw the Empire State Building lit up in green and white when the Eagles won the NFC championship, thanks largely in part to a player who was once theirs.

- History's Headlines: Great Allentown fire of 1848
- Date posted
- Description
- Years later, some of those in Allentown on June 1, 1848, would remember the weather as warm, dry, and exceptionally windy. In fact, the entire spring had been notable for its lack of moisture. Still, for many in that borough of roughly 4,000, it was Ascension Day and, as was tradition in this Pennsylvania German community, a holy day that was also a holiday.
But not all local employers chose to recognize it as such. One of them was John Eckert, a prosperous local tobacconist, who for a brief time in the 1830s had run the Northampton Bank before his successor John Rice’s speculations in 1843 brought on its collapse. His stable was in a back alley between Hamilton and Linden Street called Hall Alley.
