Now, State Sen. Jessie Seal of New Tazewell said he is pushing a bill to make Sept. 25 “9 to 5 Day” as a tribute to Dolly Parton’s musical legacy and the famous song.
Seal said, “Dolly will go down as one of the most legendary Tennesseans of all time. Not only will her music stand the test of time but so will her legacy of faith and kindness. She embodied the true Volunteer State spirit like no other. - PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The University of West Florida won its first game Thursday night as a Division I team. A sold-out game for a historic kickoff Pen Air Stadium.
The Argonauts beat Southern Illinois, 34-31, in their first game at the FCS level.
1,300 tickets were sold and those students and fans came out in full support to watch the Argos play.

- WALTON COUNTY, Fla. -- With a unanimous vote, Walton County now joins a growing list of Florida communities publicly speaking out against Flock.
Walton County commissioners recently approved the removal of Flock cameras on county roads. On the other hand, law enforcement agencies are standing firm behind Flock.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office said Flock is just the name of a brand. Every Flock camera is not solely for license plate reading. Some are used to watch over county parks.
Sheriff Mike Adkinson is concerned there's a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to Flock and license plate readers.
"I'm not very comfortable with those cameras and conducting basically surveillance on our citizens," Walton County commissioner Danny Glidewell said.
Glidewell supported the motion. He says the sheriff's office installed the cameras in the county, and it's on the sheriff's office to take them down.

- A jury on Thursday began deliberating in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts woman accused of strangling her three young children in a case that has drawn attention to postpartum mental health.
The judge excused the panel for the day a little after 4 p.m. Deliberations will resume Friday morning.
Clancy has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, with her lawyers arguing she was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy at the family's home in coastal Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023. The rare mental illness is linked to the stress, sleep deprivation and hormonal changes that follow childbirth.
Prosecutors say Clancy planned the killings and understood her actions were wrong. Jurors must decide whether she was criminally responsible and, if so, exactly what crimes she committed.

- PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A state grand jury says the DeSantis administration misappropriated $10 million from a Medicaid settlement into the Hope Florida Foundation in 2025.
The grand jury report says unequivocally that the money transfer was "part of a political scheme to fund political activities."
The sealed report was just obtained by CBS News in Miami. But it is stamped Jan. 26, 2026, by the Leon County Clerk of Court's Office. It has been kept out of the public sight since then.
The allegations of fraud and abuse were first made by state Representative Alex Andrade of Pensacola.
WEAR News invited Andrade for an in-studio interview, but he declined, saying he wasn't sure what he could legally say.
"Within days, the $10,000,000 was transferred to other organizations for political purposes because money was spent on a political campaign and went to the Republican Party of Florida," the grand jury report says.

- Prosecutors rested their case Wednesday in the murder trial of Duane “Keefe D” Davis, shifting the nearly 30-year-old Tupac Shakur murder case to the defense as Davis considers whether to testify.
District Judge Carli Kierny advised Davis, 63, of his constitutional rights outside the presence of the jury, telling him he cannot be forced to testify and that jurors cannot draw an inference from his decision if he chooses not to take the stand. Kierny also warned Davis that prosecutors could question him in front of the jury about an eligible felony conviction if he testifies.
The court identified a conviction for battery by a prisoner as the felony prosecutors could raise. Davis responded by asking Kierny, “Is that why they sent him to attack me?” Kierny said she had not reviewed the circumstances surrounding that case. Davis was found guilty of a jailhouse fight with Rochlon Hamilton on December 23 while being escorted through the Clark County Detention Center.

Felix Frisch, the group’s director, said the effort is meant to offer an alternative to the Democratic Socialist movement, which has scored victories around the country.
“The Democratic Party as a whole is not being overtaken by the DSA or socialists, but is instead made up of a lot of mainstream Democrats around the country,” Frisch said.
Frisch also argued that while the political extremes are organized, their ideas are not broadly popular.

This week, the city is celebrating the official opening of the Alice S. Williams Center. This building was once the first Black library in Pensacola before it shut down in 1976.
The library was named after Alice Strudivant Williams, the founder of the first night school for African Americans. Instead of being a haven for books, it’s now a childcare facility. The center serves infants up to two years old.
Just about a year ago Mayor D.C. Reeves started an initiative to bring more childcare access to the city. Now, he’s delivering on his commitment. He says this center supports families and opens up new jobs.

The announcement from Acting Secretary Hung Cao urges them to remove personal information that could make them a target. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is calling this initiative "EPIC VIGILANCE."

Cao is telling sailors, civilian employees and their families to lock down their social media accounts.

- TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida law enforcement agencies recovered 163 missing children during a four-and-a-half-day statewide operation that reached across the U.S. and into 12 other countries, officials announced Monday.
Operation Statewide Shield was Florida’s first statewide child-recovery initiative and the largest such operation in state history, according to Attorney General James Uthmeier and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The children ranged in age from 2 months to 17 years old. Officials said many had experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation or exposure to other criminal activity, including human trafficking.
FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass said 46 children were recovered through the Tampa Bay region, followed by 41 in Miami, 32 in Jacksonville, 21 in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, eight in Pensacola and three in Tallahassee.

Physicians and parents have mixed reactions to the news. This comes nearly a year after Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced his intent to get rid of all vaccine mandates in the state.
Florida is moving forward with a proposal that would eliminate school-entry requirements for four vaccines: Hepatitis B, chickenpox, Haemophilus Influenzae Type B (HIB), and pneumococcal disease.
The recommendation from the Florida Department of Health would apply to public and private students in pre-K through 12th grade.

- PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Tourism numbers are out for the second quarter and Visit Florida reports once again a drop in the number Canadian visitors.
During this year's second quarter, approximately 721,000 Canadians visited Florida -- over 4 percent fewer than the same time last year.
For more perspective to these numbers, Visit Florida reports that during the first quarter there were 958,000 Canadian visitors to the state.
"For us, specifically in the winter, when it's very cold in Canada, we have made a concerted effort to continue allowing Canadian travelers to know that Pensacola is welcoming," said Nicole Stacey, VP of destination development for Visit Pensacola. "So in our snowbird season, which is typically from November to March, we were still seeing consistent Canadian numbers. I won't say that they were not driving upwards, but there was definitely some consistency in the visitors we were seeing."

- PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. -- A new 18-story condominium tower is being proposed for the Casino Beach area of Pensacola Beach, according to Santa Rosa Island Authority (SRIA) documents.
It would be located at 2 Via De Luna Drive -- in between Crabs and the Hampton Inn, as well as in front of UFO Golf.
The new tower -- preliminary called "Luna" -- would include 16 condominium units, a two-story parking garage and amenity spaces.
H & S Development LLC will request conceptual approval of the new development project on the property at next Wednesday's Santa Rosa Island Authority Board meeting.

- PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Two teens are charged for stealing $6,000 worth of medical marijuana products from Legal Leaf in Pensacola in June.
The incident happened on June 16 at 2:10 a.m. at the business at 1501 W. Garden Street.
Pensacola Police say a 15-year-old is charged with grand theft, and felony criminal mischief, while a 17-year-old is charged with burglary, grand theft, and felony criminal mischief. Investigators have also identified a third burglary suspect who remains at large.
"They went in through the front door, they did a lot of damage there," Officer Mike Wood said. "They did damage inside the business and they took about $6,000 worth of product from that business."
No further details have been released.

- PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The sports community in Northwest Florida and Southwest Alabama is mourning and remembering a young athlete.
20-year-old Ben Conken passed away this week after battling cancer.
In 2024, after graduating from Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, he was headed to the University of West Florida on a scholarship to join the Argos football team.
But a month after signing on with UWF, Conken found out he had cancer.
Over the next few years he received treatments, going back and forth between Houston and Mobile.
Cottage Hill Christian's Head of School Chris Brazell says Conken's life was a testimony to faith, courage, perseverance, and the impact one can have on those around him.

- PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Fewer kindergarteners in the US are starting the school year fully vaccinated -- and that trend is showing up across Northwest Florida.
The Florida Department of Health says more than 87 percent of kindergarteners in Escambia County have their required vaccinations. That's down from almost 89 percent last school year.
Vaccination rates are also down for kindergarteners in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.
Pediatricians say parents are facing more conflicting information about vaccines.
“There's so much more noise now around vaccines. They're not sure what's true, what's accurate, who do they listen to,” pediatrician Katrina Skinner said.
FDOH says Florida has reported 141 measles cases so far this year, compared to just eight all of last year.
The agency also reports the number of parents opting to get vaccine exemptions for their kids is also going up.
