Instead of a standard sentence, a judge was forced to grant him an "absolute discharge." In layman's terms, this means the court issued zero penalty, allowing him to walk away completely free without prison time, a criminal record, and crucially, he was even allowed to keep his driving licence.
Sophie's heartbroken family have now launched a petition calling for legal reform to stop other families from enduring the same pain.
