Mordechai Meyer has been placed under “administrative detention” for six months.
The government has vowed to crackdown on extremists after an attack last Friday on a Palestinian home in the West Bank killed a toddler.
Two other suspected ultra-nationalist Jewish militants, Meir Ettinger and Eviatar Salonim have also been arrested.
“We plan to fight Jewish terrorism without any compromises”, Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon said on Monday.
“ This is a struggle over the image of the state and we have no intention of giving up on this struggle. The cabinet has reached some important decisions, including my recommendation to carry out administrative detention.”

For some residents and visitors, it’s too much to bear – with shady spots and swimming pools now in great demand.
“We are coming here. Trying to escape from the heat,” said one man, sitting on a bench under a tree.
Another man added: “We’re here for at least one to two hours. The hot weather is very difficult.”
Turkey is not alone. Poland is another country in the grip of soaring temperatures.
Weather forecasters are expecting records to be broken this coming weekend, with temperatures expected above the 40 celcius mark in south-western areas.
Medics are warning people to take extra precautions to keep cool and healthy.

- Two Turkish soldiers have been killed after a mine exploded as a military convoy made its way through Sirnak province in southeast Turkey.
Authorities say the devise was detonated by remote-control as the vehicles were winding through the Arakoy region, close to the border with Iraq and Syria.
The security services have accused the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party of carrying out the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility.
Turkish authorities say military bases also came under PKK attack in the neighbouring Hakkari province.
Violence has flared between Turkish troops and PKK fighters after 32 pro-Kurdish activists were killed last month in a town close to the Syrian border.
The Turkish government claims the attack was carried out by ISIL.

- The United Kingdom is to extend its Tornado air campaign against ISIL in Iraq until March 2017.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon made the announcement while on a visit to Baghdad.
The eight Tornados, based in Cyprus, began air strikes against ISIL positions last September and have carried out 30 percent of the coalition’s intelligence missions against the militants.
“My visit here is to reaffirm UK support in Iraq and we will be taking measures to increase this support. We will assist in the training of Iraqi forces and bomb disposal teams,” said Fallon.
The number 12 Squadron was due to be disbanded last year and replaced by Typhoon fighters.
Fallon denied that the decision was taken because the RAF is short of aircraft and insisted the firepower and surveillance capabilities of the Tornados are proving effective against ISIL.

- It is claimed fighters loyal to Yemen’s exiled president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi have seized the country’s largest military base from Houthi forces.
The recapture of al-Anad came after heavy combat, in which dozens were killed or captured, according to a pro-Hadi commander.
If confirmed, the victory – bolstered by Gulf Arab support – would mark another significant gain for the loyalists, who have already driven Houthis from the southern port of Aden.
Retaking the base also opens up the road north to the city of Taiz, where Houthi militia have been taking on local fighters siding with Hadi.
There was no word from the Houthis on the outcome of the battle. The Houthi-run Saba news agency said earlier that Saudi-led air raids had repeatedly struck the military base.
President Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in March, as the Houthis advanced on his refuge in Aden, and he remains there.

- At least 27 people have been killed and dozens injured after a Syrian army fighter jet crashed into a busy marketplace in the northwestern town on Ariha.
According to the Britain-based Observatory of Human Rights, most of the dead were civilians resident in the town that fell to Islamist insurgents in May.
It had been one of the government’s last strongholds in Idlib province.
According to eyewitnesses the plane had been flying at a low altitude when it dropped a bomb on the main commercial street before crashing in the marketplace.
It is not clear how the plane came down, but the Observatory believes it was not shot down.
In recent weeks fighting in Idlib province has intensified between an insurgent coalition and government forces, which relies heavily on air-power to bombard rebel held towns in the four-year-old civil war.

More than 20 others were injured by the blaze in El Obour, an industrial city some 35 kilometres northeast of the Egyptian capital.
An investigation is underway but reports suggest a gas cylinder exploded and that the plant did not have the safety clearances required to operate.
“We were starting to work this morning when we heard a huge explosion from the factory on the floor below us,” said local employee Islam Yousri.
“They work using chemicals and have oxygen tanks. One of them blew up and – with the mixture of the chemicals – there was an explosion in the whole building.”
The factory owner and a number of other officials are said to have been detained in connection with the blaze.

- The West is attempting to reassure Middle Eastern allies about the recently signed nuclear deal with Iran.
The EU’s foreign policy chief has been holding talks in the capital of Saudi Arabia, before heading off to Iran for discussions about implementing the new agreement.
Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative, told a media conference: “It is very important for me, personally, first to pass the message that the agreement is strong and solid.
“It’s first of all a nuclear non-proliferation agreement that will guarantee that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon for the next 10 to 15 years, and with solid mechanisms of a snap back of sanctions.”
But in a further sign of the unease over the deal, the Saudi foreign minister spoke out with a claim that Iran has made threats against Riyadh’s ally, Bahrain.

- Amid reports that Yemen’s truce has now descended into violence, victims of Saturday’s Saudi-led airstrike in Taiz are taking stock of the damage from an attack that left at least 80 people dead.
The airstrike in the central city preceded the ceasefire now said to have been breached by both the Saudi-led coalition of Arab states and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
“They killed women and children, the elderly and young,” said one dismayed resident of the devastated Moka district.
“How is this the fault of these innocent people? There are no Houthis here and no military bases. There is nothing here.”
The coalition has been bombarding Houthi forces in Yemen since March in efforts to reinstate President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who has fled to Riyadh.
With the Houthis now driven out of Aden, Saudi Arabia has been flying in humanitarian aid including medical supplies for cancer patients in the southern port city.

Sarrin has been a launchpad for ISIL for months and its capture will cut off a major supply line for the Islamist militants between the cities of Aleppo and Raqqa.
“We are coming to the end,” a Kurdish fighter told reporters.
“They can no longer fight back. They leave dead bodies. Some of them leave their weapons and run away. We have achieved our goal.”
US airstrikes are reported to have helped the Kurdish fighters in the battle for Sarrin.
The YPG has made significant gains against ISIL in Raqqa province, seizing two towns since June.
