- This week's Person of the Week is a DNR Conservation Officer who tracked and located a lost man during Northern Michigan's Annual Elk Hunt.
Within 90 minutes, Tim Rosochacki located the man in good condition.
The 78 year old man was helping his son when he became lost as the sun began to set and it started to rain.
The man's son notified the DNR's Wildlife Division that his father was missing and the search started.
Rosochacki used cellphone technology to track the missing man's cellphone GPS coordinates to a wooded section about a mile from where he was last seen.
He drove the area in his patrol truck, using sirens and his loud speaker. -- After about a half an hour, the officer saw light shining from the man's cellphone in the woods and hiked about 200 yards into the woods to the man, who appeared healthy and in good spirits.

- For this week's Person of the Week, we're honoring two Rose Lake Youth Camp Lifeguards and Counselors.
During a campfire at the camp, David Stawasz and Calvin Barlow heard a shout for help out in the middle of the lake and jumped into action. -- They grabbed a life jacket and paddled out to a group that flipped off a jet ski.
They were able to rescue one who was not wearing a life jacket, and helped the rest to shore, even saving the jet ski.
The camp says, "We are so proud of them and glad that they had the training and courage to help. Rose Lake Youth Camp campers are in excellent hands with our team!"
For their quick action and life saving efforts, David Stawasz and Calvin Barlow both receive this week's title of Person of the Week.

Matt Wille will join the organization in late September.
Wille most recently served as the Vice President of Operations at Allina United Hospital in the Minneapolis - St. Paul Region, where he also served as Interim President for a period of time.
Prior to that, he served as CEO of Dallas County Hospital and Vice President of MercyOne in Iowa.
Wille holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration, and Health Care Administration, and received his Undergraduate Degree in Economics.

- This week's Person of the Week is Cadillac/Manistee District Ranger who recently retired.
Jim Thompson spent more than 30 years working with the USDA Forest Service.
Thompson began his career as a seasonal Forest Service employee in Montana, and as a bulldozer operator near the Tongass National Forest in Alaska before relocating to the Superior National Forest in Minnesota.
It was then that Thompson thought about becoming a District Ranger. -- He was encouraged by his Forest Supervisor and was later selected for a temporary detail as the Cadillac/Manistee District Ranger in the Huron-Manistee National Forests, which eventually turned into a permanent position.

- This week's Person of the Week is a Volunteer for the Senior Corps-Foster Grandparent Program.
Heide McNichols has committed every day to serving high risk children in Grand Traverse County by mentoring and assisting them in a variety of skills.
As a volunteer for the program, McNichols serves as a consistent role model through helping students one-on-one with reading, increasing their motor skills, literacy, and self esteem.
Her volunteerism extends to helping women who have experienced abuse and trauma by assisting client victims at emergency shelters, improving environmental initiatives, and addressing food security issues in the community.
At the age of 76, McNichols continues to help inspire other volunteers through her success.

- This week's Person of the Week is a Vietnam Veteran who was seriously injured 50 years ago in the war.
Joe Thompson, former Second Lieutenant, was shot in the head just a couple of months after arriving in Vietnam.
Most witnesses thought he was dying as he was flown from the area, but he survived, and 50 years later, he's celebrating being alive.
He did, however, lose control of most of his right side and ended up with a fully paralyzed right arm.
But that didn't stop him -- his family says Thompson eventually regained much of his strength through therapy, and with his unique sense of humor, recently celebrated the anniversary of his injury.
The community came together at The Market in Cadillac to celebrate with Thompson, and his family says that they're happy that people came down to show their support.
For his service to our Country, Joe Thompson receives this week's title of Person of the Week.

Mike Paulin is one of the founders of Silent Observer -- a sustainable crime fighting organization for Wexford, Missaukee, and Osceola counties.
He was the President of the Wexford County Rental Housing Organization and created a durable medical equipment service in the Cadillac area with the support of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and continues to be part of the Congregation.
Paulin also received the Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce's Dawna Marie Ambassador of the Year Award for 2019, and has been involved in many other local organizations as well.

Chris Peterson was selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to receive the 2019 Unsung Hero Award.
The award is presented annually to select USDA employees who have demonstrated momentous leadership, immediate action, and courageous behavior in the course of their duties.
For more than 30 years, Peterson has played a leading role in the prevention and mitigation of wildfires in Northern Michigan's forests.
Peterson's teams respond to more than 150 fires every year, and has also served as the Chair of the Michigan Prescribed Fire Council, Director of the Northern Michigan Fire Chiefs Association, and Representative to the National Fire Equipment Committee.

In his free time, Brisbois enjoys learning about technology, solving problems, playing lacrosse, and snuggling his two dogs.

Jack and June Nehmer met while working together at Evart Products and have been inseparable ever since.
They got married on June 7th, 1969.
June is retired after 30 years at Evart Products and the US Post Office. Jack is currently the Head Commissioner for Osceola County after retiring from the Propane Industry and the US Post Office. -- He also owned the Texaco Gas Station in Luther in the 70s.

- For our Person of the Week this week, we're honoring a wonderful woman who recently passed away.
Nicole Louise Hornbaker Hamner Weiss graduated from Reed City High School in 1991 and later attended Ferris State University and graduated with a degree in Technical Writing.
Weiss was employed with the Cadillac News, and her submitted articles were looked forward to by many in the community.
She loved her family fiercely with all her heart and was strong-willed, but loved with an open heart. -- Friends say that she will be fondly remembered as a free-spirited gypsy by friends and family.
Weiss passed away in her home peacefully on May 23rd, 2019. She was 46 years old.

Terry Beia, Frank Dituri, and Dr. Marie Socha were named the 2019 winners of NMC's Outstanding Alumni Award last month.
Terry Beia was in the Petroleum Engineering Technology program, and in 1998, he made his first real estate investment in downtown Traverse City. In the two decades since then, he's been an active booster and backer of downtown.
Frank Dituri was in the Parks and Recreation Management and Biology program. A highlight of Dituri's career in both private and public is serving as chairman of the Boardman River Dams Implementation Team, helping restore Traverse City's Boardman River.

- This week's Person of the Week is an Environmental Activist who won a lifetime achievement award back in April.
Dave Dempsey, who has helped shape policy for conservation and the preservation of the Great Lakes as the senior adviser for For Love of Water or FLOW, was honored with the Clarence Kroupa Award.
Dempsey said, "the Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council has been a force for the environment in this region for more than 30 years. It's a major force for the environment and it's an honor to be recognized by these people who care so much." -- He also said it was beyond an honor to be given the award.
Speakers at the award ceremony say that Dempsey is "just an amazing person doing amazing work in our region."

Brook Oliver is a student in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program.
Oliver earned the Breaking Traditions Award for Excellence -- the second year that a Ferris HVACR student has been honored with it.
Oliver first took an interest in facility infrastructure while observing renovations at the Waters Building in downtown Grand Rapids when her mother worked in an office there.
When asked about how she got into the career, Oliver said she would go into town with her mother when she was out of school in the summer. She said one of the project supervisors was happy to explain their work to her, and He told her there were lots of opportunities in their field. In 2014, Erin Gogolin earned her Bachelor of Science in Information Security and Intelligence from Ferris' College of Business, but a nagging thought in her head had her wondering if that was what she really wanted to do.
Gogolin took a more in depth look at herself, thinking about her skills and interests and what she could do with them.
She always loved reading and writing and had a Spanish minor.
In August 2018, Gogolin traveled to Costa Rica in central America - a return trip.
She started attending an immersion school and volunteered at an Orphanage nearby for kids coming from domestic violence situations.
