If Ghalob's junoon is intense, self-aware, and often destructive, poets like Ahmad Faraz and Ameer Qazalbash later engage with the same intensity differently. - On January 31, at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, students and social activists staged a protest against caste-based discrimination in universities at the call of the All India Students’ Association (AISA). The protesters demanded the implementation of a stringent law on the lines of the Rohith Vemula Act and called for strict action against the harassment of Dalit-Bahujan students on campuses. The protest followed the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the UGC’s Promotion of Equity Regulations, 2026. Speakers at the protest said caste-based discrimination continues at multiple levels—including evaluation, admissions, fellowships and promotions—forcing many students to drop out. Protesters also criticised the government, alleging that it failed to frame clear regulations and did not effectively defend them before the Supreme Court.

- Vidip Jadhav, Ajit Pawar's Personal Security Officer (PSO), was among the five people that were killed in the ill-fated aircraft that crashed in Baramati on 28 January. Jadhav was a 2009 batch Mumbai Police officer. Originally hailing from Maharashtra's Satara district, he was a resident of Thane. He is survived by his wife, Sandhya, and two children, a 13-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son.
Jadhav's picture with Ajit Pawar, now viral on social media, was the last photo he sent to his wife before the aircraft took off, his family said. Jadhav was cremated in Satara on 29 January, where the last rites were performed by his son.

- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar was cremated on Thursday, 29 January, in his hometown of Baramati, Maharashtra, a day after he was tragically killed in a plane crash.
The funeral was conducted in the presence of thousands of party workers and supporters, who were seen in tears, amid chants of 'Dada, Parat Ya' (Ajit Pawar, come back), and 'Ajit Dada Amar Rahe' (Ajit Pawar is immortal).
Ajit Pawar's private charter plane crashed while landing at Baramati airport on 28 January, leading to the deaths of Pawar and four others on board.
His mortal remains were identified by his sons, Parth and Jay Pawar, from his wristwatch at Baramati Medical College.
The mortal remains were kept for supporters to pay their last respects on Thursday, following which they were taken to Katewadi village.
