- The Epstein class has no party loyalty
- Date posted
- Description
- Esptein survivor Annie Farmer stood before Congress this week with a photo of herself at 16, the age when she was abused by Jeffrey Epstein and she and her sister were ignored by the FBI when she tried to report it. As 20,000 newly released emails put fresh attention on Epstein’s ties to the powerful, from Donald Trump to Bill Clinton to the Former Prince Andrew Windsor, survivors are reminding us of something important: this was never about partisan politics. This was about the American government’s failure to stop a wealthy predator who had the right connections, enough money, and the protection of elites across both parties.
Congress now has 30 days to force the full release of Epstein’s investigative files, but the survivors have already waited decades. The Inequality Watch will keep a close eye on what happens next and will continue to update you from Capitol Hill.

- Fossil fuel lobbyists swarm #COP30 UN climate summit
- Date posted

- Description
- “The presence of lobbyists and other representatives from the fossil fuel industry… is a huge problem, obviously, for the COP process,” Dharna Noor says. “The idea that these companies that have their profit wrapped up in the continued sale and use of fossil fuels is outright contrary to the very goals of the Paris Agreement, including the less radical ones.”
This year’s COP conference in Belém, Brazil, has more fossil fuel lobbyists in attendance than any previous conference, but it has also drawn the biggest delegation of Indigenous peoples from around the world—each group representing competing visions for addressing the climate crisis. Maximillian Alvarez speaks with Guardian US fossil fuels and climate reporter Dharna Noor to discuss what actions are and are not being taken at COP30, and what the results of this year’s climate summit will mean for humanity’s future on a rapidly heating Earth.

- Description
- Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's abuse, such as Haley Robson, Danielle Bensky, Liz Stein, Lisa Phillips, Annie Farmer, Jess Michaels, and many others spoke out today, encouraging Congress to put aside partisan issues and concentrate on the protection of women and girls. Lisa Phillips of the @fromnowonpod announced that she and the other survivors are launching the first nationwide survivor-led network to change how human trafficking is handled in the US. Many survivors thanked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) for their support, despite the pushback that these Republicans initially experienced. Robson addressed President Trump directly: "I'm grateful that you have pledged to sign this bill. I can't help to be skeptical of what the agenda is. So with that being said, I want to relay this message to you: I am traumatized. I am not stupid." And Lisa Phillips closed with these powerful words: "Alone, we are fearful. Together, we are fear...

- Inside the modern-day plantation: How theater confronts incarceration
- Date posted
- Description
- Rattling the Bars host Mansa Musa explores how a one-woman play, The Peculiar Patriot, reveals the human cost of mass incarceration and the enduring ties between slavery and the prison system. The artist behind the play, Liza Jessie Peterson, has worked with incarcerated youth for decades, bringing their stories to the stage and to national audiences. Performed in more than 35 US prisons and filmed at Louisiana’s Angola Prison—once a plantation, now a maximum-security facility—the play became the basis of the documentary, Angola: Do You Hear Us? (Paramount Plus / Amazon Prime). As the fight for abolition and prison reform gains momentum, this story reminds us that art is not decoration—it’s a tool for awakening, organizing, and freedom.

- He trusted the police. They let him die on the street.
- Date posted
- Description
- 31-year-old Dontae Melton Jr. approached Baltimore police officers pleading for help, saying someone was chasing him. Instead of receiving medical aid or mental health care, he was handcuffed, shackled, and left on the hot pavement for nearly an hour while officers waited for an ambulance that never came. By the time officers drove him to Grace Medical Center, it was too late. The Maryland Medical Examiner has now ruled his death a homicide.
For Dontae’s mother, Eleshiea Goode, the heartbreak is compounded by disbelief. “He came to them for help,” she said. “They let him die on the street.” The family’s attorney calls it a preventable tragedy, and the homicide ruling now confirms what his family already knew: that Dontae’s death was caused not by fate, but by a chain of failures inside Baltimore’s policing and emergency-response systems.

For those in Gaza City, many of whom have already been displaced multiple times, this order presents a deadly choice: flee into the unknown yet again, or stay and face the advancing Israeli army. “We already experienced displacement,” Ziad Ayyad, a refugee in Gaza City, says. “We can’t do it again. We’re staying here. Whatever happens, happens. - Adelita Grijalva, the final vote needed for Congress’ Epstein petition, SPEAKS OUT
- Date posted
- Description
- Arizona Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva says House Speaker Mike Johnson is delaying her swearing in to cover for predator Jeffrey Epstein and his clients. Grijalva, a Democrat from Arizona, won a special election roughly three weeks ago, but Speaker Johnson has refused to formalize her Congressional post with a swearing-in ceremony. Johnson claims that the government shutdown is to blame for the delay, but Congressional representatives have been sworn in (including by Johnson himself) during pro forma sessions before. Grijalva would be the 218th member of Congress to sign a discharge petition that would force the House to vote on a subpoena to force the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files.
TRNN Congressional Correspondents and Inequality Watchdogs Taya Graham and Stephen Janis were on the ground in Washington DC and got a chance to speak with Congresswoman Grijalva herself…

- After two years of Israel’s genocidal destruction of Gaza, Palestinians have welcomed the tenuous ceasefire that began last week. However, there is little hope that the ceasefire will lead to lasting peace or an end to the occupation. “There is no optimism,” one Gaza resident, Nusfat Modin, says. “You can't negotiate with these people. A deal, no deal—we have no hope. No one—ask anyone.”
TRNN asked Gazans what they thought about the latest ceasefire deal. This is what they told us…

- How ICE creates the chaos ICE is called in to "fix"
- Date posted
- Description
- President Trump repeatedly promised that his mass deportation efforts would target "the worst of the worst" criminals, yet the government's own data reveals that immigrants with no criminal record are the largest group in US immigration detention today. How can the Trump administration justify its deployment of federal agents, and even the military, to US cities based on the factually disprovable fictions that American cities are crime-ridden "war zones" overrun with criminal "illegal aliens"? To answer that, one must study the long-established precedent in the USA of overpolicing poor communities of color that are painted as inherently violent, chaotic, and crime-ridden. In this episode of "Rattling the Bars," host Mansa Musa speaks with TRNN reporters Stephen Janis and Taya Graham about what the history of policing in America can teach us about Trump's authoritarian deployment of law enforcement agencies today.

- Microsoft cancels Israeli spy unit access after tech worker revolt
- Date posted
- Description
- In a stunning and massive development, tech giant Microsoft has announced that it is terminating parts of the Israeli military’s access to proprietary technology that it was using to conduct mass surveillance and targeting of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. “Microsoft told Israeli officials late last week that Unit 8200, the military’s elite spy agency, had violated the company’s terms of service by storing the vast trove of surveillance data in its Azure cloud platform,” the Guardian reports. “The termination is the first known case of a US technology company withdrawing services provided to the Israeli military since the beginning of its war on Gaza.” This major development would not have happened without the joint-investigative work of reporters at The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call exposing Microsoft’s complicity in Unit 8200’s mass-surveillance campaign, but it also would not have happened without disruptive protest campaigns by tech workers with...
