- Amy Jean Knorr celebrated her 106th birthday on Nov. 28, 2022. She was born in 1916 in Michigan, in a house without electricity, according to her family. She graduated high school in 1934 and earned a $90 scholarship to Michigan State, which paid for two semesters. She would earn her PhD in home economics from Michigan State. After marrying her husband Phillip, who passed in 2012, they moved to Tucson to work for the University of Arizona as professors. Her teaching took her to Brazil and Nigeria and she worked heavily with student teachers. She would later sponsor scholarships for students. Knorr continues to bring lively energy to every room, according to her family. She reads daily, enjoys socializing with friends and eating ice cream.
