- The National WWI Museum and Memorial unveiled items from a time capsule which was enclosed in the cornerstone of the original Liberty Memorial when it was dedicated nearly 100 years ago on October 16, 1924. Designed to provide a record of what was to be, "The War to End All Wars,” and as a tribute to those who made the Liberty Memorial’s construction possible. Items included: unsealed messages from President Calvin Coolidge and General John J. Pershing; a photograph of the dedication of the site; a glass tube containing food producing seeds of the day; various photos and documents of historic significance and period newspapers. - The “room” attached to the back of a Tokyo Fire Department truck shook shake violently as the occupants crouched beneath a flimsy table at this airlift hub in western Tokyo. Set to recreate the experience of a magnitude 7 earthquake, the simulator shook the entire truck for about 30 seconds. It was part of the Great ShakeOut, an earthquake preparedness event at Yokota Air Base, Japan.

- The ARM Cuauhtemoc, a training ship of the Mexican navy, set sail Wednesday from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force base at Yokosuka, Japan, after a five-day visit. The Cuauhtemoc berthed at the Hemi Dock adjacent to Yokosuka Naval Base, home of the U.S. 7th Fleet. Its stop coincided with the 415th anniversary of friendship between the peoples of Mexico and Japan. The tall ship was commissioned in 1982 and displaces 1,800 tons. Its crew of 276 includes approximately 90 officer cadets. Its next destination is Incheon, South Korea.
