- For the 50th anniversary of the occupation of Alcatraz, brothers Alfonso Ramirez and Antonio Moreno, along with Vicente Moreno, built a tule boat from reeds harvested from Mountain Lake in the Presidio. They joined other members from the Ohlone community as they sailed from Aquatic Park to Alcatraz to commemorate the "struggle of their ancestors". "This island at one time was native territory by constitutional rights", said Ramirez, "and even that wasn't honored, like the treaties."
