Mayor Bruce Harrell joins a coalition of community leaders and civic engagement organizations to announce his proposal to renew Seattle's Democracy Voucher Program, which is expiring at the end of this year.
Created by voters in 2015 and implemented in the 2017 election cycle, the Democracy Voucher Program is a first-of-its-kind public campaign financing system which aims to increase participation, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and make the city's elections more accessible and transparent.
The program is administered by the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission (SEEC) which sends four $25 democracy vouchers to eligible residents during municipal election cycles. Residents then donate their vouchers to qualifying campaigns, which are redeemed for the assigned value.

- Description
- “These issues aren’t limited to just one area.”
Seattle’s CARE Department will expand its services citywide on March 10, now including South and Southwest Seattle. In January, North Seattle received its own assigned Community Crisis Responders (CCRs). CCRs assist Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers in responding to 9-1-1 calls involving individuals in crisis or facing behavioral health challenges, such as non-violent person-down incidents, welfare checks, and other requested calls. The CARE Department aims to streamline the process of connecting individuals to appropriate service providers while allowing police officers and firefighters to focus on higher-priority calls. With this expansion, a total of 27 CCRs will now serve the entire city. More information: https://www.seattle.gov/care
