In a social post, Trump said Iran and "other Middle Eastern countries" have asked for time to complete a deal that would lead to "the Immediate, Complete and Total" reopening of the Strait and "an end to Iran's nuclear threat".
"Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL," he said in the post.
Trump's apparent de-escalation is the latest twist in the war the US and Israel launched five months ago. Attacks have spread across the Gulf to the Red Sea and even a Mediterranean facility in Egypt.

- Description
- The Spanish government says it will dispatch soldiers to Ceuta to secure the border after hundreds of migrants entered Spain's North African exclave from neighbouring Morocco.
People were seen walking through the streets of Ceuta, thanking the Spanish police and calling out: "Bye bye, Morocco, hello Spain."
Police and civil guards in Ceuta appeared to do little to intervene, although some officers attempted to direct the arrivals to the local migrant reception centre.
The Spanish government's delegation in the exclave told the Agence France-Presse news agency on Friday that the bodies of nine people who died while trying to reach Ceuta by swimming the previous day had been recovered.
Migration from Morocco into Spain's two north African territories, Ceuta and Melilla, has long been a politically sensitive issue between the two countries, as thousands cross the border at times.

Most targets are due in 2031, and advocates are calling on governments to redouble their efforts to meet the deadline.

- Former top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci declined to answer 111 questions at a Senate hearing and accused Republican Senator Rand Paul of an "unhinged" campaign to see him imprisoned.
In his opening statement, Fauci told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which Paul chairs, that he would be invoking his Fifth Amendment right.
"The only conclusion I can reach is that the sole reason he is calling me before this Committee is to get me to say something that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up, in his words, 'behind bars," Fauci said.
Paul has previously called for Fauci to be indicted and accused him of lying to Congress about whether the National Institutes of Health funded research in Wuhan, China.
Paul said the U.S Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a vote next week on holding Fauci in contempt of court.

The Israeli prime minister said the conversation was grounded in “mutual support” and an “understanding of the common goal of ensuring that Iran does not have nuclear weapons”.

- Description
- Conservative Keiko Fujimori has been sworn in as Peru's new president after winning the position following weeks of protests, fraud accusations and the review of contested ballots in a razor-thin race.
Fujimori won 50.135 per cent of the vote in the 7 June runoff to clinch the nation's top office in her fourth run for the presidency, just ahead of leftist congressman Roberto Sanchez's 49.865 per cent, a difference of about 50,000 votes out of 18 million.
She is the first woman to be elected president by direct vote in the country.
Fujimori, 51, is the daughter of late President Alberto Fujimori, who governed the country with an iron fist from 1990 to 2000 and was credited with defeating Maoist insurgents and taming runaway hyperinflation.
But the Fujimoris are still a controversial dynasty in Peru. Alberto served 16 years in prison for human-rights abuses and Keiko spent years under investigation over campaign financing allegations, ...

- "Why people loathe you": US tech billionaire Elon Musk has said he disagrees that his social media platform X has given rise to "polarised environments" across the world.
In an interview with The Economist's editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, Elon was asked about his 250 million followers on X, his contribution to Western democracy and some of his claims, including his view that a "civil war in Britain is inevitable".
Defending his takes, Musk said: "A quarter billion people follow me ... I think a lot more people actually like me."
"A lot more people hate you and the media more than you realise," he told Beddoes.
Musk is the world's richest person, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and owns the social media platform X. He was briefly the world's first trillionaire following SpaceX's IPO earlier in 2026.
