Why is social media so easily corrupted by the state? Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey says guys like him are the problem.
"I was a single point of failure," Dorsey said at the 2024 Oslo Freedom Forum, an annual conference hosted by the Human Rights Foundation. "It creates a chokehold. You have a company, a CEO, a board, that represents one place where an entity can put pressure on."
That was especially true during the COVID-19 lockdowns, when federal officials were in contact with every major social media platform, coercing them to remove content. Even in normal times, Google and Meta collect vast troves of personal information on their users and receive hundreds of thousands of requests every yea...

____________________________
Former budget director under Reagan, David Stockman, and Stephen Moore, Donald Trump's former senior economic advisor, debate the resolution, "In the current presidential election, both Democrats and Republicans consist of a UniParty that will lead us to the bottom of the national 'policy dumpster.'"
Arguing for the affirmative is David Stockman, former budget director for the Reagan White House. He is the author of six books, the most recent being his 2024 title, Trump's War on Capitalism. He blogs on his website Contra Corner. The resolution's mention of a "policy dumpster" comes from a three-part blog Stockman authored in August.
Taking the negative is Stephen Moore, Trump's former senior economic advisor. He is now a Senior Visiting Fellow in Economics at The Heritage Foundation. He is also the co-founder of Unleash Pros...

Why is the Brazilian government afraid of X?
Judge Alexandre de Moraes has blocked the site formerly known as Twitter in Brazil, where an estimated 40 million people access the site each month. Circumventing the ban on X with a VPN could get you fined about $9,000 a day, around the average per capita income in Brazil. It happened after Musk reinstated accounts that the Brazilian state had accused of being part of "digital militias" undermining Brazil's democracy.

Part One: Beef Grief
The Year: 1946
The Problem: The price of beef is skyrocketing! And voters are angry! And it's an election year!
The Solution: Reinstitute federal war-time price controls.
Sounds like a great idea, with the best of intentions. What could possibly go wrong?
Turns out, artificially low prices are harder to swallow when you're the one selling. Angry farmers, unwilling to sell their meat at government-mandated prices, refused to bring their cattle to market. Meat production plummeted. Now everyone was angry. Miners went on strike. Butchers closed. Hospitals complained they'd have to serve horse meat. With vot...

Our national debt—measured as federal debt held by the public—is over $27 trillion. That's approaching 100 percent of annual gross domestic product, which is higher than it's been since the end of World War II. So, are we screwed?
Or are those of us who worry about numbers like this totally misunderstanding the nature of government debt? There's a school of thought called Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) that says economists sho...
