- Can you manage N10k for healthcare annually?

- Description
- Nigerians spend far more on healthcare out of their own pockets than the federal government does.
Despite an increase in budget, households alone financed roughly ₦6.9 trillion in health costs in 2024, while federal health allocations were around ₦2.4 trillion.
Which means. Nigerians paid for medicines, consultations, tests, surgeries, and other health services from their own income rather than through insurance or government-funded care.
The per capita health allocation has more than doubled since 2023, rising from roughly ₦4,800 to about ₦10,400 per person annually; however, due to current inflation, many Nigerians said the amount cannot even transport them to a good hospital, let alone cover treatment.
We asked everyday Nigerians to share their views on healthcare costs, savings, and access to medical care.
