- On June 23, 2018, scatter showers and thunderstorms formed during the afternoon over the Grand Forks area. Weak winds aloft meant storms would pulse in several areas before collapsing upon themselves. During the process of collapsing, rain cooled air reaching the ground expands outward away from the dying storm. The leading edge of this rain cooled air is known as an outflow boundary.
Several outflow boundaries can be noted by the blue lines expanding away from storm cells. As was the case on June 23, they can sometimes spark new storms, especially where multiple boundaries meet together enhancing the lift needed to produce new storms. #ndwx #mnwx
