Grapevine resident Glenn Halfin, 64, is charged with one count of criminal Interference with right to fair housing. The charges were filed by the feds last Friday, six months to the day after Grapevine police arrested him.

Police say that Halfin, who is white, continuously harassed a black family in the Colonial Village Apartments during a two-month span in late 2017. Members of the family had their vehicles damaged and nooses thrown onto their balconies. On two occasions, dolls were left with ropes on their necks in positions that mimicked a hanging.

Eden Green is located in Cleburne, in a series of greenhouses that are billed as “next generation vertical farming.”

In the greenhouses, produce is locally grown on a large scale then picked and packed on the same day. Each harvest is pesticide and chemical free and ready in only 27 days.

It will be able to produce 10-15 harvests each year. Traditional, soil-based farming can only yield two harvest annually. This method of farming means that there is no restrictions to where produce can be grown.

“We can tailor make the climate per varietal,” co-founder Jaco Booyens said. “So we can take food that does not grow in the United States and introduce it to the population by growing it in Cleburne.”

The synthetic strain is known as K2 and it has caused overdose calls in the city of Dallas to double since 2015. The city is searching for ways to combat the drug but has yet to find many answers.

The challenges are clogging up the city’s resources and overdoses from the drug are occupying ambulances. To put it simply, it’s becoming a citywide problem.

“[It’s affecting us] to where we're not able to answer other calls: heart attacks, strokes, trauma, because we are dealing with this K2 problem,” Dallas paramedic Rob Borse said. “It is disheartening and demoralizing to our personnel.”

In 2017, Dallas Fire Department paramedics responded to 6,851 drug overdose calls, more than double the amount from 2015. When paramedics respond to a drug overdose call they’re often dealing with unusually aggressive patients.

Picking up litter may seem like a small thing to some people, but the job has given Frank Crist his life back.

“I'd still be in the shelter living on the street,” he said.

Clean Slate is run by the Presbyterian Night Shelter through a contract with the city of Fort Worth. Crist is one of seven employees. More employees are expected to be hired in the near future.

"The goal is to give people an income so they can end their homelessness,” said Toby Owen, CEO of the Presbyterian Night Shelter.

Experts who study and work with children with autism say that they are more likely to be drawn to water. According to the National Autism Association, they are 160 times more likely to drown.

“Nobody really knows what it is that's attracting them [to water] but that is a physical comfort that we know kids feel with autism," Dr. Sally Fryer Dietz said. “The water is very calming to them because it's like being wrapped in a blanket, so we'll do pool therapy."

Pool therapy aims to teach children with autism how to swim. Six-year-old Hayden Kraft is in one such class right now. He’s swimming in a pool for 10 minutes each day for six weeks. He’s learned how to look up, float and breath – a technique called self-rescue.

Raymond Mikeska was riding in his daughter's car on I-30 in Fort Worth when they say a group of kids through the asphalt chunk at their car. Police are trying to find the kids.

Mikeska says he heard a loud thud Sunday evening while riding in the front seat of his daughter's car. It was a chunk of asphalt crashed through the windshield that hit him square in the chest.

“It just happened just like that,” he said. “My eyes, I just didn't see it."

Cindy Boyd was driving Eastbound on I-30 in Fort Worth with her dad. She immediately pulled over when it happened.

"My father raised his shirt up to show me,” she recalled. “And he was just covered in glass."

Mikeska's great-granddaughter found the asphalt chunk under the front seat. Fort Worth police are investigating.

According to the Irving Fire Department, the fire at Danal’s Mexican Restaurant on North O'Connor Road, south of Highway 183, started around 8 a.m. Monday. It quickly grew to three alarms.

Smoke could be seen pouring from the building. Firefighters initially took an aggressive approach to fighting the flames but had to clear out of the building quickly when part of the roof collapsed.

The restaurant had been in the strip mall for 27 years. It drew customers from all over North Texas and was a favorite among many city employees. By Monday afternoon, much of the restaurant had been razed because the walls were no longer safe.

For the owner of the restaurant, it’s a devastating lost.

“My life’s work is here,” Santo Maltez said. “All my savings is there. Now everything is gone.”

They’re saying the machines were out of calibration, leading to lower readings. This means that some people could have faced higher criminal charges had the scales been correct.

It came to the office’s attention in January after dope in that case weighed less at the sheriff’s office than it did at the Department of Public Safety’s crime lab in Garland.

They determined that one of the three scales in the sheriff’s office was out of whack.

“We looked at the weight and the lab weight was a lot more,” Kaufman County Prosecutor Marc Moffitt said. “It was like 1.3 to 2.7 so we knew something was off.”
