Around 9,000 handguns were reported lost or stolen in the United States last year, including several from right here in the Brazos Valley. According to “Everytown for Gun Safety,” a nonprofit combating gun violence, an average of one gun is stolen from a car every 15 minutes.
FBI data from 2020 reveals that about 40,000 guns, including pistols, handguns, revolvers, shotguns, and more, were taken from cars across 271 cities, marking a significant rise from a decade ago when the same data reported fewer than 4,000 stolen guns.
Experts say while leaving a gun in a car is not illegal, experts say it’s not always the best practice. This year, 53 guns were stolen from cars in Bryan, including three in the past week. While it’s fewer than the 73 stolen last year, the police are still concerned. They say most thefts happen overnight in ...

Certified financial planner and CEO/founder of Kovar Wealth Management, Taylor Kovar, shares some easy ways we can save big this holiday season and beyond.
Kovar said rule number one is to immediately stop any unnecessary spending.
“Let’s cut out all the extra stuff, right, so cut out the Starbucks run, cut out some of these other things and lets pause for a minute so we have the cash available that we can reallocate to the gifts that we want to buy,” explained Kovar.

One resident told KBTX she attempted to go to the post office on Friday, but it was also closed then.
It was the same story on Monday when person after person came up to send off their mail. When they were told it was closed many were shocked and confused since the schedule posted online and on the door said it’s open from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The locker room was still accessible, but the area where a postal worker would check or hand off packages was dark and locked.

- College Station Police offer advice on keeping you and your home safe during the holidays
- Date posted
- Description
- Christmas is now one week away and many are thinking about their holiday travel plans. It’s also a good time to start thinking about keeping your home safe while you are away. Most people have seen the movie Home Alone, and while it’s a silly movie, home burglaries are a real thing that happens all across the country, including here at home.
College Station Police Officer David Simmons joined News 3 at 6 on Monday to discuss keeping you and your home safe during the holidays.
Officer Simmons suggests one of the best ways to keep your home safe is by using security cameras. He says if you have a camera, make sure it’s working. If you don’t have one, he suggests that may be a good thing to purchase.
“Put one on your front door and your back door. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a doorbell camera,” Simmons said.

- Hotels see uptick in bookings after Aggie football schedule release
- Date posted
- Description
- Hotels are seeing an uptick in reservations after the Aggies announced their football schedule for the coming year.
While it’s not unusual to see people make reservations in advance for football games in Aggieland, Greg Stafford, the general manager for The Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center, said that typically happens after the holidays. But that’s not the case this time around, especially on November 30th when the Aggies play against the Texas Longhorns.
“The schedule came out and within a matter of two to three hours we were sold out. By the next morning, we had nothing. It took us by surprise and nothing like that had occurred previously,” Stafford said.
The Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center is not the only hotel in town that has seen more bookings. It’s the same story for Hotel McCoy.

- The City of College Station held its last meeting of the year on Monday, and one of the agenda items looked at an update on Southeast Park along with future ballparks.
Southeast Park was the original location for Texas Independent Ballpark, however, those plans fell through back in August after a report from city staff which said the park contains insufficient soil. The city has since held surveys to figure out what the future of Southeast Park may look like.
During Monday’s meeting, a presentation was given to the city council. It showcased the results of the survey which ended up having 553 respondents. According to the data trails were the number one vote with 306 followed by turning the park into a playground with 140 votes and an open area with 81 votes. The results from a public open house were also shared and it showed pump tracks had the most votes at 152 followed by trails at 121.
