- The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), yesterday, said that it has formally petitioned FIFA over the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DR Congo) alleged use of ineligible players during the recent African World Cup playoffs.
The DR Congo defeated the Super Eagles 4–3 on penalties in the final of the African playoffs for the 2026 World Cup, advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs, where they will face the winners of Jamaica versus New Caledonia for a place at the tournament.
Many of the players who represented DR Congo in the playoffs are foreign-born and were only recently cleared to play for the country. Under Congolese law, dual nationality is not recognised. Children born abroad to Congolese parents may hold dual citizenship only until the age of 21, after which they must renounce one nationality.

The labour leaders met President Tinubu behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid heightened public attention over possible protests and strike action.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, described the engagement as a consultation rather than a conclusive negotiation, stressing that labour’s leadership would first brief its internal organs before making any public pronouncement.
“We came for consultation with the President, and we are finished, so we have to go back to our meeting and then continue tomorrow,” Ajaero said. “By tomorrow, we will get the outcome.”

- Nigeria is navigating a delicate diplomatic situation after personnel of the Nigerian Air Force were detained in Burkina Faso following an emergency landing.
What began as a routine safety decision mid-flight has now escalated into a cross-border military and legal issue, drawing attention across the region and online.
The Nigerian aircraft was en route from Lagos to Portugal on 8 December 2025 when the crew detected a technical problem shortly after takeoff, prompting a diversion to the nearest airfield in line with safety protocols.
However, Burkinabe authorities detained the crew and impounded the aircraft, saying the plane entered Burkina Faso’s airspace without prior authorisation, an allegation the Alliance of Sahel States describes as a violation of sovereignty.
As of the time of this report, 11 Nigerian military personnel remain in custody in Burkina Faso, days after their C-130 aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bob...

- Sydney. Bondi Beach. A place of sun, sand, and celebration... shattered. This past Sunday, joy turned to terror in one of the deadliest acts of violence Australia has seen in nearly three decades. An event meant to celebrate the start of Hanukkah—"Chanukah by the Sea"—became the target of a horrific, premeditated attack.
At approximately 6:47 PM local time, two gunmen opened fire from a footbridge, turning the bustling beach into a scene of chaos. The casualty count is devastating: 15 people are confirmed dead, including one of the assailants. 29 others were rushed to the hospital, including police officers and bystanders. New South Wales Police have declared this a terrorist incident, confirming the community's worst fears. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned it unequivocally as an "act of evil, antisemitism, and terrorism."
The response was swift and fraught with danger. Police engaged the attackers, fatally shooting one at the scene. But the dange...

“The chance of Peter Obi getting five per cent in 12 core Northern states will be a miracle because Nigeria has not healed,” he said. “He is a fantastic man, he is a gifted man, he could do well, he could achieve, he has proven himself but he can’t win 5 per cent in the north.”

- The Court of Appeal has affirmed a landmark judgment preventing Vehicle Inspection Officers—or VIO—from stopping and impounding vehicles on Nigerian roads. This ruling comes after a series of legal challenges aimed at curbing what many motorists described as unlawful harassment and extortion by VIO personnel.
The court held that VIOs do not have statutory powers to stop, detain, or impound vehicles, emphasizing that such actions fall outside their legal mandate. According to the judgment, the role of VIOs is strictly limited to vehicle inspection at authorized inspection centers, not traffic enforcement on highways.
This decision upholds the rights of motorists and underscores proper adherence to due process and regulatory frameworks. It also directs law enforcement agencies to review and align their operational protocols to avoid further unlawful disruption on the nation’s roads.

- Chicken, Turkey, Guinea Fowl: Why they cost more in December
- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- Every year, as the festive season approaches, one thing becomes almost predictable across Nigerian markets — the prices of chicken, turkey, and guinea fowl begin to climb sharply. These birds, which are central to Christmas and New Year celebrations for many families, suddenly become luxury items, leaving buyers wondering why the cost keeps rising.
One major reason is high demand. During the festivities, virtually every household wants to buy at least one bird for celebration. This sudden surge in demand puts pressure on poultry sellers who naturally adjust prices upward to match market behaviour.
Another important factor is the increased cost of poultry feed. Over the years, the prices of maize, soya beans, and other essential feed ingredients have risen significantly. Poultry farmers spend more to raise their birds, and these costs are passed down to the final consumers.
There is also the issue of transportation costs. With fuel prices fluctua...

Investigators say the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, entered the U.S. in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, a relocation programme for Afghan nationals.
In response, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has ordered a sweeping review of green cards issued to citizens from 19 “countries of concern.”
These include Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, and others.
Under the new directive, immigration officers can now factor in weak identity systems, security concerns, or poor background-check cooperation fr...

- Description
- Japan has officially begun commercial sales of the highly anticipated “Human Washing Machine,” a cutting-edge invention that has captured global attention with its futuristic approach to personal hygiene.
The device allows a user to lie inside a 2.3-meter capsule, where advanced microbubbles, a fine-mist shower, and a built-in drying system work together to deliver a completely hands-free, full-body wash. Unlike a traditional washing machine, there’s no spinning—just a smooth, soothing 15-minute cleansing cycle. The system also plays calming music during operation, creating a spa-like experience.
Beyond hygiene, the machine incorporates health-monitoring sensors that track vital signs, including heart rate and body temperature. Developers say this feature could be especially valuable for the elderly and people with mobility challenges, offering a safer, more independent way to bathe.
The human washing machine made its world debut at the 20...

- Description
- After more than two years without permanent ambassadors, President Bola Tinubu has finally moved to refill Nigeria’s empty diplomatic seats.
On November 26, 2025, he sent the first three names to the Senate — including postings to the United States, United Kingdom, and France.
Just three days later, he forwarded another 32 nominees — a mix of 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career heavyweights, among them former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu, ex-minister Femi Fani-Kayode, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri and even former INEC chairman Mahmud Yakubu.
So why the long vacuum?
When Tinubu took office in May 2023, he recalled virtually all ambassadors for a “comprehensive diplomatic review.”
That review dragged on for over two years — crippled by funding shortages, a crashing naira, unpaid salaries at missions, and the delicate politics of balancing merit with patronage.

- Today, December 1st, marks World AIDS Day; a global call to action to reflect on the toll of HIV/AIDS and reaffirm commitment to ending the epidemic.
This year’s theme is “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response”, highlighting the need to rebuild and strengthen HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services that were disrupted in recent years.
Today, we take a closer look at how the virus affects Africa and Nigeria, the progress made, and what must be done to prevent new infections.
HIV remains a significant public health challenge in Africa. According to UNAIDS, over 40 million people are living with HIV worldwide, with more than two-thirds in sub-Saharan Africa.
In Nigeria, the adult HIV prevalence rate stands at 1.3%, with about 1.9 million Nigerians living with the virus, including roughly 160,000 children.
