Ft. Knox, Ky. is located on 109,000 acres of land and has won numerous DoD and U.S. Department of Energy awards for its energy initiatives over the past 20 years. The base currently leads a natural gas pilot program chartered by DoD to find the best energy-efficient way forward for other installations.
Knox is constantly pushing the limits to fully utilize the installation’s resources to save money and move toward energy self-sustainment. A small staff of 15 at the Name Tape Plant, which is run by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, at Fort Knox, Ky. creates quality products for U.S. military clothing stores all over the world. The plant produces name tapes for work and dress uniforms, in addition to keychains, luggage tags, and other miscellaneous items. The plant is certified by the Institute of Heraldry, the designer of insignia for various U.S. government agencies and the armed forces.
