The new Blended Retirement System (BRS) goes into effect on January 1, 2018. It combines the legacy 20-year military defined benefit retirement, with a defined contribution plan, similar to the civilian equivalent of a 401(k)-style retirement system, utilizing the Thrift Savings Plan.
If you're a member of the Uniformed Services who will have served fewer than 12 years (or National Guard and Reserve with fewer than 4,320 retirement points) on December 31, 2017, you will have an important decision to make between January 1 and December 31, 2018: You must choose whether to stay with your current retirement system or move to the new BRS.

- About 11,000 U.S. and NATO service members from 20 countries took part in the 2017 Saber Strike exercise.
The exercise took place in various regions in the Baltics and Poland from May 28-June 24.
Saber Strike 17 is a long-standing Joint Chiefs of Staff-directed, U.S. European Command-scheduled, U.S. Army Europe-led cooperative training exercise.
The key exercise objectives were training and exercising the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battle Groups with a focus on promoting interoperability with allies and regional partners and improving joint operational capability in a variety of missions.
The Saber Strike exercises help facilitate cooperation amongst the U.S., Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and our allied and partner nations.
