Mansa General Hospital has disclosed that attempted suicide is now among the leading mental health cases being admitted at the facility, followed closely by drug and alcohol-related disorders.
The hospital says the trend is deeply concerning and calls for strengthened prevention measures.
Senior Resident Medical Officer Dr. Danny Kambole reports that 21 attempted suicide cases were recorded in 2024, but the number has already risen to 39 in 2025 as of October 25th.
Authorities further indicate that out of the 39 cases, 23 involve male patients, with the remainder being female — a disparity they say reflects a growing mental health burden among men.
