- Together with the European Commission, we strive to establish #Barnahus model across Europe to better protect and support child victims and witnesses of violence.
Barnahus (Children’s House in Icelandic) 🏠 is the leading European child-friendly, multidisciplinary response model for child victims and witnesses of violence, including sexual abuse.
🔹 Why is this crucial? 1 in 5 children are victims of sexual abuse. Their journey to justice can be deeply traumatic. Barnahus aims to minimise trauma and secondary victimisation by offering a unified, child-friendly and safe space for child victims and witnesses of violence.
🔹 How does it work? In the Barnahus model, all relevant professionals (police, prosecutors, social workers, medical and healthcare professionals, and the judiciary) collaborate under one roof. They work together to support child victims and witnesses, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected.
