- A Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the former nurse accused of murdering her three children, after jurors deadlocked and were unable to reach a verdict. It followed the denial of a last-ditch emergency appeal by the defense to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
The jury has been discharged after a dramatic day of developments, including the members saying again that they couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations. The judge denied a request from the defense to hold a hearing over a juror who it said was the lone holdout on a verdict.
Clancy is accused of murder after strangling her three young children in 2023. Prosecutors have argued she acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” to kill her children, while the defense said she should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

- Gloria Steinem, the American journalist and political activist who became the face of second-wave feminism in the late 1960s and early 1970s, has died at age 92, according to her verified Instagram account.
Steinem died Wednesday in New York City, “surrounded by some of the many who loved her,” the statement on social media said.
“Gloria’s near-century on earth were years well-lived, and she continued working for equality until the very end,” the statement read.
Steinem was a feminist icon who spent the better part of a century advocating for women’s rights in the workplace, the right to abortion and sex education. Her name and face became almost synonymous with the fight for women’s rights. She continued to be a vocal proponent of feminism and other liberal causes, like anti-war activism, into her 90s.
