- South African international recording artist Moabi Kotu, who now lives in the Phoenix area, joined us in the Arizona PBS studios to share his songs “Akekho” and “More Love.”
Kotu grew up being surrounded by music, from neighbors' chanting to community members harmonizing unrehearsed songs. “I think I fell in love with music for the first time at the age of four, listening to my father's records, and music was just something that surrounded me, I couldn't avoid it.” Kotu said. His father played the songs of Louis Armstrong, The Crusaders and Big John Patton, which led to his passion for the jazz genre.
Kotu's live performances are known for creating a lasting good memory to the audience by presenting South African culture through songs. “My sound sets me apart because it’s original and inspired by the traditions, sounds and languages of the people of Africa, more especially my country South Africa,” Kotu said.

- The Heartless – a band originally formed in Tempe in 2004 – brought their songs “Unbelievable” and “Uno Mas” to Arizona PBS’ studios.
All four members grew up in the Phoenix area and were all involved in the local punk rock scene in the early 2000s. “I was playing in a band,” said singer/guitarist Chris Wagner, “Ryan was playing in another band, Johnny was playing in another band, and we all just kind of met each other through playing shows.”
When the other bands went their own ways, Chris and guitarist Ryan Mott knew that they wanted to be in a band together.
“These guys are some of my closest friends,” Mott said. “Playing music with them in a live setting just gets me really excited and fired up – it’s just a joy.”
“It’s very comfortable to play with these guys,” agreed guitarist Jeff Tretta. “You just kind of let loose when you get on stage.”

- Autumn McClintock is a Board Certified Music Therapist residing in Tempe, Arizona. She graduated from Arizona State University's music therapy program in 2018. When she joined us in the Arizona PBS studio, she performed her songs "Empathy" and "Bed."
Autumn McClintock grew up in a very musical household. "We were pretty active in church, so I grew up singing in the arms of Jill Scott and Alicia Keys," she said. "But my parents listen to everything, my dad listened to AC/DC and my mom would listen to Yo-Yo Ma and Linkin Park. It was really confusing but also really eye-opening as a kid to be surrounded by so much music."
In August of 2020, Autumn announced the start of her own private practice, Open Air Music Therapy. OAMT partners with the Phoenix Conservatory of Music, where Autumn holds her sessions. "Having my own practice allows me to integrate my expertise and culture into my work while being in direct relation with the community." McClintock explained.

He shared his new music project “Outbreak” with DJ Ash10, the international DJ perhaps best known for expressing her adventurous, inspirational life and emotions through her music. They performed the songs “Tikka Masala” and “Victor Sweet.”
“The record “Tikka Masala” was inspired by an experience I had at a place called “Passage to India” in Tempe, Arizona,” explains Roqy. “The plate that I had was so fired that I named the record after it.”
Roqy has been residing in Phoenix to advance his artistic career, “ to be able to take the Phoenician flag, and go across over overseas, and put that flag down and say “this is what we are doing in Phoenix”, that has really been one of the highlights of my moments as an artist.” said Roqy.

- Singer/songwriter AJ Odneal has been making up songs from a very young age. “I remember writing little goofy songs growing up,” she said. But her songwriting quickly found a purpose.
“In middle school, I started writing songs for the purpose of processing what I was feeling,” Odneal explained. “And that’s what songwriting has really become for me.”
Odneal’s indie folk style music is heavily influenced by pop and jazz. She uses both the guitar and ukulele to accompany her smooth vocals and clever lyrics.
Odneal plays a song called “Better This Way,” a melancholy yet upbeat song about leaving and moving on.
Other songs are more somber.
