U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has rejected Russian claims that Washington failed to honor an alleged understanding reached in Alaska regarding the war in Ukraine.
Speaking in Manama, Rubio said there was never any formal agreement between the United States and Russia, only proposals that did not result in a deal.
“There was no agreement in Alaska. There was a proposal in Alaska, but there was no agreement,” Rubio told reporters.
Rubio added that if an agreement had existed, it would have led to an end to the war. He also reiterated that the United States remains willing to help facilitate efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine.
