- The National Weather Service is lowering flood-stage thresholds along portions of the Cosumnes River beginning Oct. 1. The changes affect Michigan Bar near Rancho Murieta and McConnell southwest of Wilton and are intended to help forecasters recognize potential flooding sooner. The updated thresholds use new modeling and information from past flooding, including the 2023 floods and levee breaks in Sacramento County. At Michigan Bar, major flood stage will decrease from 18 feet to 14 feet, while moderate and minor flood stages will also begin at lower levels. At McConnell, major flood stage will decrease from 53.5 feet to 45.2 feet, with minor flood stage starting at 41.2 feet instead of 44.5 feet. Officials say earlier warnings can give people more time to prepare themselves and their properties as winter storms approach.

- Suisun City has completed the first phase of a property sale to California Forever, transferring ownership of 701 Main Street and two downtown parking lots. The city will lease the parking lots back for $1 a year, allowing them to remain open to the public.
City Manager Bret Perbula said the properties are envisioned for mixed-use development, with businesses and commercial space on the ground floor and market-rate housing above.
The downtown project is separate from California Forever's larger proposal to build a new city in Solano County, which is currently in the environmental phase. Suisun City leaders will likely make a decision on that proposal early next year.
The city says the remaining two property sales to California Forever are expected to be completed in the next few months.

- Thousands of Californians could be at risk of losing CalFresh benefits as a grace period tied to new federal SNAP work requirements ends. Some adults ages 18 to 64 without young dependent children must work or participate in qualifying activities for at least 20 hours a week to continue receiving benefits. People who do not meet the requirements can generally receive CalFresh for three months during a three-year period.
California food banks are preparing for potentially higher demand as CalFresh enrollment declines. California Food Banks says participation has fallen about 6% to 7% over the past 8 to 10 months. In Sacramento County, CalFresh beneficiaries declined 4% over the past year.
