A new parliamentary report warns that the UK’s war-fighting readiness is being eroded not only by dwindling stockpiles but by its failure to meet Nato Article 3 obligations to maintain the capacity to resist armed attack.
The shortage of TNT is particularly alarming: Europe and the United States currently rely on a single Polish factory, a fragility that exposes the entire alliance to strategic risk. Ministers insist they are responding, with Defence Secretary John Healey outlining plans for up to 13 new British factories to produce munitions and explosives. But the pace remains slow.

- Lockdowns could have been “avoided entirely” during the pandemic had ministers reacted more quickly to the emerging threat of the virus, the UK Covid-19 Inquiry has concluded.
Baroness Hallett, the inquiry chairman, said that if “stringent restrictions” had been put in place before March 16 2020 there might have been no need for a lockdown.
Measures including contact tracing, self-isolation, face coverings and respiratory hygiene could have stopped the need for a lockdown if introduced earlier, she suggested.
However, a “toxic and chaotic culture” at the centre of government meant the pandemic response was “too little, too late”, meaning lockdown became inevitable.

- This week the Rocket welcomes former Prime Minister Liz Truss to discuss next week’s Budget as well as the co-pilots diving into the latest political issues. From the dramatic U-turn on immigration by the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, to the creeping tax rises hidden in Rachel Reeves's upcoming budget, there’s more than enough madness to unpack.
They ask if the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's new rhetoric to crack down on immigration is real, and will her plans work? Alison dissects the proposals, arguing that a new 'work and study' route for migrants is a disaster and a perverse incentive to enter the UK illegally. Liam, while acknowledging the political risk for Mahmood, suggests the reforms are more rhetorical than real.

- Description
- A stark new review has found that Britain is not ready for war, arriving as the Government unveiled fresh plans to boost the nation’s defences.
This morning, the Defence Secretary announced a major £1.5bn investment in 13 new UK munitions factories in a bid to ramp up Britain’s defence industry as global threats escalate.
The announcement came as John Healey revealed that a Russian intelligence-gathering ship, the Yantar, has been operating off the coast of Scotland, allegedly firing lasers at RAF surveillance pilots and mapping Britain’s undersea cables.
“My message to Russia and to Putin is this: we see you... and we are ready,” he said.
It lands as MI5 issues fresh warnings about Chinese espionage. Following the collapse of the China spy trial, security officials have now named two Chinese state-linked “recruiters” using LinkedIn to target Westminster insiders.

- Description
- onald Trump said “things happen” when asked in the presence of Saudi Arabia’s ruler about the killing of a journalist at a Saudi consulate.
The US president mounted an extraordinary defence of Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, as he welcomed him to the White House for the first time since the 2018 murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
Mr Trump insisted MBS was not responsible for Khashoggi’s death, as the crown prince was greeted in Washington with cannon fire, a military band, and a US Air Force fly-past. The trappings signalled that the Crown Prince was an honoured guest and Mr Trump leapt to his defence when asked by a reporter about Khashoggi’s death.
He said: “A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about. Whether you like him or didn’t like him, things happen, but [Mohammed] knew nothing about it. And we can leave it at that. You don’t have to embarrass our guest by asking a question like that.”

- Farage blasts The Daily T as he sets out Reform's anti-foreigner budget | The Daily T

- Description
- Reform UK has set out its plans to plug a £25bn hole in the economy, and the policies essentially amount to one thing: making it more expensive to be a foreigner in Britain.
But the press conference got a bit frosty when Camilla asked Nigel Farage who his pick for chancellor would be.
Meanwhile, in another central London conference centre, the Conservatives were announcing... not very much at all. But things got interesting when Kemi Badenoch called out a Guardian journalist who was in the room.
Camilla and Tim assess the credibility of the Tories’ and Reform’s economic plans and, crucially, bemoan the declining quality of press conference snacks.
