- Here are five key takeaways from Shabana Mahmood's proposals:
- The Home Secretary announced that migrant families with children whose asylum claims have been rejected will be deported if they refuse cash incentives to leave the UK.
- Ms Mahmood said the Government will decrease leave to remain from five years to 30 months.
Failed asylum seekers will no longer be allowed to launch repeated appeals against their removal. - They will now only have a “single appeal”.
- The Home Secretary said the Government will weaken article eight of the ECHR which protects migrants’ “right to family life”.
- Ms Mahmood’s blueprint stated that digital ID will become “mandatory” in proving a right to work by 2029 so that it is no longer “far too easy” for migrants to work illegally.

- Description
- The Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has today announced a raft of measures as part of a major new asylum crackdown, in a clear attempt to pacify the right of both the Labour party and the country at large.
Mahmood’s plans, based on a model successfully implemented in Denmark, include visa bavns for countries that don’t accept returns of failed asylum seekers or foreign criminals, a 20 year wait for refugees to apply for indefinite leave to remain, reviews of refugees status every 30 months and legislation to that will promote British law over and above that of the European Convention of Human Rights.
Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley ask whether a policy that Labour MPs are calling “divisive” and “cruel”, and Richard Tice says sounds like “an application for vetting to join Reform”, will actually end up pleasing no-one.

- America is flexing its muscles in the Caribbean and the world is holding its breath. Washington has trained its sights on Socialist-run Venezuela, and the arrival of the colossal USS Gerald Ford has sparked the biggest military buildup since the Cuban Missile Crisis. Operation Southern Spear is now under way: a dozen warships, thousands of troops, and a barrage of so-called “anti-narco” strikes that have already left scores dead. The White House insists it’s about drug traffickers, but few believe that. With President Nicolás Maduro about to be officially labelled a terrorist and Trump accusing him of heading a major cartel, the scent of regime change is hard to ignore. Maduro says America is inventing a war. So what’s really happening? Venetia is joined by former British Royal Navy officer Tom Sharpe and RUSI Senior Research Fellow Carlos Solar.

There is high praise for George Ford after he delivered a player of the match performance. We discuss what he offers this England side and if he is the undoubted first choice at number 10 for the foreseeable future.
Away from England, it was a weekend to forget for Scotland. They threw away a 21-point lead at home to Argentina and were booed off by their own fans. Has Gregor Townsend taken them as far as he can?
We also take a look at the rest of the weekend's action including a return to form for Ireland ahead of their clash with the Springboks and a first win for Steve Tandy since taking charge of Wales.

- It’s a scandal which is arguably more damning than phone hacking.
When Martin Bashir – at the time a relatively unknown journalist – secured an exclusive, groundbreaking interview with Princess Diana for Panorama in 1995, it was hailed as a huge scoop for the BBC.
Millions watched as the Princess told Bashir 'there are three of us in this marriage'; that she didn't expect to become Queen; and that Charles was not cut out to be monarch.
But it would soon become clear – to BBC executives at least – that Bashir had used nefarious and underhand tactics to gain access to Diana, spinning a web of lies that isolated her from her family and increased her paranoia.
Instead of coming clean though, the corporation would cover up for Bashir for 25 years.
Camilla and Tim are joined by Andy Webb, author of Dianarama, an explosive new book about that interview. He lays bare the deep deception Bashir used to get it; the line be...

One of the channel’s correspondents was filmed hugging a female commander in the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group opposed to the government, who had previously urged fighters to carry out mass rape.
The reporter – who is married to a senior RSF official – last week became the first to reach El Fasher, the capital of Darfur state, where analysts estimate thousands if not tens of thousands of people have been killed by the rebel militia.
On Wednesday, the broadcaster released an interview with a doctor who claimed he had not seen a single dead body, even though nearly 500 people are thought to have been killed in the building where he worked.
Other reporting also appears to have downplayed satellite images of piles of bloodied bodies.

- Alan Dymock is joined by Gavin Mairs, Charlie Morgan and Charles Richardson to unpack an incident-filled weekend of rugby action!
England now have nine wins in a row under Steve Borthwick after seeing off the challenge from Fiji at Twickenham.
It was another strong afternoon for Borthwick's 'Pom squad' while Fin Smith played well on his return to the No 10 shirt. We discuss if his performance was enough to earn him a start against the All Blacks on Saturday.
Speaking of New Zealand, they edged past Scotland at Murrayfield thanks to some heroics from Damian McKenzie. We take a look at the threat the All Blacks pose and ask if England's favourite tag is justified.
Elsewhere, South Africa laid down a serious marker by beating France with 14 men, Italy picked up a major win over Australia and it was a case of new coach, same result for Wales who were thumped by Argentina.

According to a 2024 poll, nearly 20 per cent of people put the humble Christmas sandwich in their top 10 favourite festive foods.
Every year, supermarkets sell over 200 million of them, stuffed with cranberry sauce, stuffing, turkey, brie, gammon and just about every other Christmassy ingredient you might care to consider.
So how do pigs in blankets sandwiches compare? The Telegraph's Senior Lifestyle Reporter Jack Rear tried and tested them to find out.

- Description
- The BBC is facing its worst crisis in more than a decade after its director-general and head of news resigned over The Telegraph’s revelations about bias at the broadcaster.
Tim Davie and Deborah Turness quit on Sunday evening over the “serious and systemic” problems highlighted by an internal whistleblower, which included the doctoring of a speech by Donald Trump.
Senior MPs have said the BBC must now undergo a major shake-up and Mr Davie’s successor will need to “restore trust” in the corporation after it ebbed away under his leadership.
Other senior staff, including Jonathan Munro, the global head of news content, are also under pressure to leave in what is seen as the BBC’s worst crisis since the Jimmy Savile scandal in 2012.

- The King appeared emotional as he led the nation in a two-minute silence to commemorate the war dead.
The monarch laid a poppy wreath and saluted at the Cenotaph, taking centre stage in a ritual performed for more than 100 years.
It was the third time since his coronation that the King has led the national service of remembrance, and the second that he has done so while undergoing cancer treatment.
He was joined by his son and heir, the Prince of Wales, and his brother, the Duke of Edinburgh, who each laid wreaths.
The Queen and the Princess of Wales, both dressed in smart black coats and wearing large red poppies, stood shoulder to shoulder as they watched from a balcony.

The ship is China’s third and most advanced aircraft carrier, boasting an electromagnetic aircraft launch system (Emals) that means it can catapult fully-loaded warplanes off the deck and into the air, and operate against distant targets while out at sea.

- Description
- Every day, millions of us step onto trains, walk through busy town centres and trust that we’re safe. But that trust was shattered this past weekend when a man armed with a knife went on a violent rampage aboard a high-speed train bound for London.
And not long after that horror unfolded, confidence in the justice system was shaken again after two prisoners were mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth this week, part of a wider pattern of failures that’s seen record numbers of inmates let out in error.
In today’s episode of The Daily T, we examine what the Huntingdon train attack tells us about knife crime in the UK, why assaults on public transport are rising, and whether our justice system is doing enough to protect us.
Camilla is joined by former New Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley to discuss the truth about knife crime, the state of policing, the government’s crime strategy, and whether facial recognition, tougher sentences or ...

- That the BBC has been a biased and unreliable source of news for the British public has been evident to those outside the organisation for years. The extraordinary revelations contained in an internal dossier sent to the broadcaster’s board have now made it quite clear that these issues were known about internally, too.
The document, written by Michael Prescott who until June was an independent advisor to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Board, has set out multiple failures on the part of the broadcaster to uphold standards of accuracy and impartiality.
The issues highlighted include “thoroughly wrong” suggestions of racism on the part of car insurers, the reporting of BBC Arabic on Gaza, and what appeared to amount to an effective veto given to the LGBTQ desk on reporting trans issues.

- Germany is rearming, and fast. A sentence that once sent shivers down Europe’s spine is now a shocking reality. This isn’t the Germany of old; it’s a nation powering up for a new era of danger. With Putin’s war machine grinding on, Berlin’s gone from pacifist to powerhouse, pledging a staggering 3.5% of GDP to defence by 2029, outpacing the UK. So what’s behind this dramatic transformation? And is it enough to protect Europe from another Russian rampage? Venetia is joined by The Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent James Rothwell and defence expert Ulrike Franke to find out about Germany’s great rearmament.

- Six protesters were arrested amid highly-charged scenes outside Aston Villa’s powder-keg match against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Hundreds of largely pro-Palestine campaigners descended on Villa Park, with police expecting five separate protests to take place before the Europa League match.
Pro-Israel groups were angered by incendiary chants and placards outside the stadium and some were seen being moved away by police officers when displaying Star of David flags outside the stadium.
However, despite chants of “death to the IDF”, fears of major clashes have so far been kept at bay by a 700-strong police presence around the ground.

- For over 70 years, the Miss Universe competition has claimed to celebrate women’s empowerment.
But a bitter row has erupted after an organiser of the 2025 edition appeared to call Miss Mexico “dumb”, sparking a mass walkout by the contestants.
At a pre-event ceremony, Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai businessman who co-owns the Miss Universe organisation, scolded Fátima Bosch of Mexico for not taking part in promotional activities.
In widely circulated footage of the “sashing ceremony” on Tuesday, Mr Nawat said all the women representing their countries were expected to promote Thailand, the host country.
He then singled out Ms Bosch, who had refused to take part in a promotional photoshoot on the advice of her management.
Mr Nawat appeared to say: “If you follow the order from your national director, you are a dumb head.” He denied using the word “dumb”.
When the 25-year-old attempted to object,...
