Waters asks exactly where those locations are. Judith Landsberg from the Australian Climate Service, which produced the national climate risk assessment report, couldn’t immediately provide the information. When pushed, Landsberg says the highest-risk communities 'would not be a surprise to Australians'. 'Broadly, southern Queensland, up the coast in Queensland, there’s areas at risk in Western Australia, there’s areas at risk in every region, but also South Australia and the south-east of Victoria,' Lansberg says.

- A civilian flotilla seeking to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza says it was attacked by a drone twice in less than 24 hours this week.
The Global Sumud Flotilla shared a video early this week showing one of its boats being hit by a flaming object at Sidi Bou Said port, near Tunis.
Tunisia’s interior ministry said reports of a drone hitting a boat in the port aren’t true and that a fire broke out on the vessel itself.
Early Wednesday morning, another boat had been attacked by another drone as it was moored in the same port, GSF said.
This isn't the first time an unarmed civilian vessel challenging Israel’s siege of Gaza has been thwarted.

One nanosecond before, or later, and he would have missed the frame. Guardian Australia photo editor Carly Earl explains.

- Testing out age verification technology ahead of Australia's under-16 social media ban
- Date posted
- Description
- Every Australian on social media will need to prove their age when the ban for under-16s rolls around in December, and it might be complicated and time consuming.
The official trial of age assurance technology found that facial age estimation tests took an average of 40 seconds – but it also took some users between 10 minutes and an hour.
That’s before taking into account whether their age was guessed correctly. The trial report acknowledged there will be errors, especially for users closer to 16-years-old.
We chatted to technology reporter Josh Taylor, and tested one of the trialed apps ourselves.

- The violent and confronting scenes that took place at anti-immigration rallies across the country last weekend continue to reverberate throughout Australian politics. Protesters said they marched because migration levels have reached record highs. Despite the real figures telling a different story, some sections of the media ignored the issue of racism and claimed those taking to the streets were motivated by legitimate concerns.
Bridie Jabour speaks to Guardian Australia’s editor, Lenore Taylor, and the national news editor, Josephine Tovey, about the challenges of covering the far right without amplifying their dangerous views.

- Experts say the laws on privately manufactured guns are a ‘dog’s breakfast’.
Rajan Basra, a researcher at King’s College London, says the 3D-printed gun world has become a “social movement”.
The Urutau and other models, including perhaps the most infamous 3D-printed firearm, the FGC-9 – or “Fuck Gun Control” – emerged from online communities that share information and promote the creation of weapons both as a means to push the boundaries of science and, according to some designers, “permanently undermine global firearm prohibition”.

- On Friday, the home affairs minister, Tony Burke, released a six-line statement announcing a new deal struck with Nauru. The deal allows the government to deport about 280 members of the NZYQ cohort, a group of noncitizens living in Australia whose visas were cancelled on character grounds. And despite costing hundreds of millions of dollars, the public have been told little detail about how the arrangement will work.
Senior reporter Ben Doherty speaks to Nour Haydar about why critics have labelled the government’s plan to deport people to its Pacific neighbour ‘discriminatory, disgraceful and dangerous’
