- Description
- Several weeks ago at West Point Academy – that's the prestigious military school in Upstate New York that educates future U.S. Army officers – the freshman class held a pillow fight in an open courtyard to blow off some steam. The pillow fight is a West Point tradition that goes back decades and it’s actually pretty fun to watch. But this year, some of these brainiacs got it in their heads to stuff the pillowcases with helmets and other solid objects. I guess they thought striking someone in the face with a helmet would be just plain old fun.
The end result?
Busted lips, broken bones, dislocated shoulders, and several people knocked unconscious – out cold! At least 30 cadets were injured, including 24 with concussions. There was at least one report of a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone.
"While these spirit events do occur, we never condone any activity that results in intentional harm to a teammate," said?academy Superintendent Lt. General Robert L. Casle...

The best would have to be Actress Zhang Ziyi, whose wax work figure looks like the bastard love child of Zhang Ziyi and gollum from Lord of the Rings. - As one of the first and one of the most important global commodities, porcelain helped introduce Chinese culture, art and the name of Jingdezhen to the world.
First introduced to Europe in the fourteenth century, Chinese porcelain was regarded as?an object of great rarity and luxury. By the late nineteenth century, porcelain from China, especially blue-and-white porcelain, had achieved a status above being practical.
Chinese porcelain was so valuable then, and still inspires ceramic artists around the world.
For an exhibition in this year's Art in Action, one of the largest art events in the UK, Mia Sarosi made a blue and white porcelain piece with a dragon pattern. The artist said she is interested in the positive symbolism of dragons both in eastern and western cultures. For the Art in Action show, she also used a gold luster for the dragon's flames, as she was aware that in China, gold is a color used in many different celebrations.

The Beijing Police Department last week confronted and defeated a large group of too-sexy-for-shirts foreign men dressed in capes, harnesses, hot pants and strappy sandals – someone's idea of Spartan battle-wear.
The group of largely muscled men marched in V-formation through city streets causing quite a stir and sending a few hearts aflutter. The pretend-warriors were a marketing scheme to promote a new restaurant. But the scantily-clad Spartans were confronted by a force that proved much mightier: The Beijing Police Department.
Beijing's men in blue took on the Spartans in the Sanlitun area of the city, after the Spartans were told to disperse or face defeat not "for Sparta!" but for disturbing the peace.
For Sparta! Some reportedly insisted. For Beijing! Woooosh….the police moved in. Several Spartans were detained, held charged with disturbing public order.

Summer has struck China with a vengeance. Temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius in Beijing and other parts of the country, and people were doing whatever they could to stay cool.
