🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Good afternoon.
And I am glad to see all you here today.
Brussels has one of the largest international press corps in the world and I am looking forward to be working with you.
First, I want again to express my profound gratitude to Jens Stoltenberg for the tremendous job he has done in the past ten years.
Few leaders of this Alliance faced a more challenging geopolitical environment.
But Jens steered us through difficult times with a steady hand.
He played a big part in making today’s NATO stronger than ever, and he leaves behind an enduring legacy.
I also want to thank the 32 Allies for their trust and confidence, for choosing me as his successor.
I am deeply honoured to serve as Secretary General of NATO – the ...

🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Thank you so much, Mario.
Dear friends and colleagues,
Dear Mark,
When I became Minister for Industry and Energy in Norway in the early 1990s, the Prime Minister told me that I needed to be prepared for long meetings in the Parliament.
And I had to sit for hours and listen to not always very exciting debates.
But the Prime Minister also told me: “Remember that this is democracy. This is how we take care of our great nation. And how we make decisions together.”
In the same way, I have sat here in the North Atlantic Council for 10 years. For more than 1000 Council meetings. And listened to discussions that I think we all can agree were not always very exciting.

It is a pleasure to welcome the new Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, to the NATO Headquarters.
I have known and worked with Mark for many years.
And he knows NATO well.
And he is well known across the Alliance.
And Mark has the perfect background to become a great Secretary General. He has served as Prime Minister for fourteen years, led four different coalitions governments. So therefore, he knows how to make compromises, create consensus.
And these are skills which are very much valued here at NATO. So Mark, therefore NATO will be in safe hands with you at the helm. And therefore it also makes it easier for me to leave the Alliance, knowing that you will take over ...

- Press conference by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg following the meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence, 13 June 2024
🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Good evening. Today we convened the NATO-Ukraine Council, where Defence Minister Umerov briefed Allies on the latest battlefield developments, and Ukraine’s most pressing needs.
Delays in our support have had serious consequences, and we must not let that happen again. The good news is that Allies are stepping up. But Ukraine needs predictable support for the long term.
Tomorrow, I expect Ministers will agree the plan for NATO security assistance and training for Ukraine, a key deliverable for the NATO Summit.
More than 99% of all military support to Ukraine is provided by NATO Allies. So, it makes sense that NATO takes on a greater role in these efforts. This will put our support on a firmer footing, provide predictability for Kyiv, and address both immediate and lo...

Both of us just attended the US-led Contact Group for Ukraine and there Allies announced, actually, already more support for Ukraine. This is extremely important. So, we are urging Allies to step further up and also to ensure that assistance is delivered as soon as possible. Let me just also say that the bravery, the courage ...

Let me say some word in English. First of all, I thank you for the good cooperation and good meetings we had today and yesterday. And, Sweden as a NATO Ally is contributing in many different ways to our shared security, to our collective defence. Sweden is an Ally that already spends 2% or even a bit more actually, of GDP on defence. You have well trained, well equipped forces, you have an advanced defence industry. So therefore, it is a great privilege to be here for the first time as Secretary General in NATO in Sweden as a full-fledged member.
Swedish membership also helps to strengthen our presence, not least in the Nordic, the High North and the Baltic region. And I welcome the announcement today that Sweden will contribute to NATO's Air Policing. Thi...

- Remarks by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb at a moderated discussion hosted by the Atlantic Council of Finland, 6 June 2024.
🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Let me start by saying that it is a great pleasure to be here and as I said this is my first visit to Helsinki after Finland became a full-fledged member. I've been here many times but this is for me an important, almost historic, visit because it's great to be in Finland and then be visiting a NATO Ally. Alex mentioned earlier today that we met many years ago when he was Foreign Minister and I was Prime Minister of Norway. And at that time, I think none of us were able to imagine the possibility of Finland being a full member of the Alliance just not so many years later. And therefore, it's also rare to share this moment with him and to see so closely how Finland now is really not only a member of the Alliance, but a very capable, highly valued NATO All...

It's great to see you again.
I also very well remember when we met when you were Foreign Minister.
I was Prime Minister at that time. It was hard of believe that Finland was going to become a member of NATO.
And even harder to believe that you were going to be the President and I was going to be the Secretary General of NATO.
But now we're here together.
So, it's hard to predict the path of two people like you and me. But it's great to be here. And thank you for hosting me and my delegation.
It has been two very interesting days where we have really got a better and deeper understanding of how Finland is really a highly valued and very capable NATO Ally. The membership in NATO makes Finland safer and NATO str...

🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Good afternoon.
We have just concluded a productive meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers.
Our discussions focused on our support for Ukraine.
We all want to stop this war. But the paradox is that the better we prepare for the long haul, the sooner the war can end. Russia must understand that it cannot wait us out.
No final decisions were made today, but we made significant progress on three issues.
First, NATO’s plans to play a greater coordinating role in the provision of equipment and training.
Practically all military aid to Ukraine – 99 percent – comes from NATO Allies.
So, it makes sense that NATO should play a greater role in these efforts.
This will enable us to use the NATO struct...

🗣 | NATO Secretary General:
Good morning.
Today we will convene NATO Foreign Ministers here in Prague in this beautiful historic city.
We will discuss the preparations for the upcoming Washington Summit in July and there are three main topics.
First, Ukraine. Allies have provided unprecedented support to Ukraine. Just last week Belgium announced 30 more F-16s and Spain and Sweden announced new packages of more than one billion euros each for air defence, for artillery and for other important equipment for Ukraine. These and other announcements come on top of the US decision of 61 billion extra US dollars for Ukraine.
