And with people on lower incomes spending more of their money on food, it's likely to hit the poorest the hardest.
Our Economics Editor Joel Hills, reports from a farm in Cambridgeshire.
Plus the Prime Minister issued a stark warning earlier, as he said "the impact of this war will affect the future of our country" Political correspondent Harry Horton has the story.

- Description
- More than 1,500 people have been killed since the US and Israel began strikes against Iran on February 28th.
To understand the roots of the conflict, it helps to go back to 1953, when the US and Britain backed a coup that overthrew Mohammad Mosaddegh, the most prominent democratically elected leader in Iran's history.
The hostage crisis, the Iran-Iraq war, and the shooting down of an Iranian commercial jet by the US military all help explain why relations between the two countries remain so deeply fractured.

- Iran war: Should the UK take Trump's latest threat seriously?
- Date posted
- Description
- US President Donald Trump and his defence secretary have both heaped criticism on the UK and other allied countries for not being more involved in the war in Iran.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump called on the UK to "build up some delayed courage" and "take" the Strait of Hormuz, which has been mostly closed since the conflict began.
"You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us," Trump said.
"Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!"
Trump's sentiment was later echoed by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who urged other countries around the world to prepare "to step up" during a press conference at the Pentagon.
Hours later UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced more British troops are being sent to the Middle East to help allied countries defend themselves from Iranian attacks...

And yet, he still maintains great progress is being made in talks with Iran to end military operations.
President Trump's constant switching between peace and war is not being mirrored by Israel, neither in Iran, and certainly not in Lebanon.
Israel remains laser-focused on targeting Hezbollah across its northern border in Lebanon.
An Israeli airstrike to the south of the Lebanese capital Beirut has killed one person and injured another.
On the ground, Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the country's forces to expand their invasion of southern Lebanon towards the Litani River.

This all comes as Donald Trump threatened to escalate the war.
The US President has said he will "completely obliterate" Iran's energy facilities, unless a deal is reached "shortly".
As Iran continues to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, focus is shifting to the tiny Kharg Island, just over 400 miles away.
Today on social media, the President threatened to blow up the island, which handles 90 percent of Iran's crude oil exports, and is a key source of income for the regime.

Instead, he became captured himself — held hostage by the Libyan dictator’s regime forces in the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli - before making a daring escape.
For the first time, John revisits his death-defying war reporting alongside rebel forces on the road to the Libyan capital, watching back intense combat footage and describing his hellish hostage experience and how he and his team eventually fled their armed captors.
Reporting History sees journalists join News At Ten anchor Tom Bradby to revisit their remarkable reports from the defining events of the modern age and reveal the drama that occurred off camera, from war reporting and conflict journalism to historic global events.

- Tom Frith, 66, from Cheshire, was rushed to the A&E department at Leighton Hospital in June 2025, suffering with a temperature, confusion and struggling with his speech.
"It was carnage - bodies everywhere and nurses running around," Tom’s wife, Julia Chard, told ITV News.
Tom was left in a corridor for 36 hours, undiagnosed with a serious condition called encephalitis, which causes inflammation of the brain and requires urgent medical treatment.
He was eventually diagnosed a week after he first attended A&E, but due to the brain damage which had already occurred, Tom never recovered and died weeks later.
"No one should go through what Tom went through," said Julia.
But ITV News can reveal that coroners have issued dozens of formal warnings about the deadly risks of 'corridor care' and hospital overcrowding in England in recent years.

- Sir Keir Starmer has insisted British boots will not be placed on the ground in Iran.
Asked if he was considering deploying UK armed forces as the US musters its troops in the Middle East, Sir Keir told broadcasters: “This is not our war and we’re not going to get drawn into it.
“What we have done is taken defensive action: so we’ve had our pilots up in the air since an hour or two after this war started, defending British lives, British interests and, of course, our allies in the region.”

- Iran warns US ground troops would be 'set on fire' if Trump launches a ground invasion
- Date posted
- Description
- Iran’s parliament speaker has warned the US against a ground invasion, threatening to set the American troops "on fire" and step up attacks on US allies, according to Iranian official media.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Iranian forces "are waiting for the arrival of American troops on the ground to set them on fire and punish their regional partners forever".
He added, "Our firing continues. Our missiles are in place. Our determination and faith have increased."
He described the US's 15-point plan, which Pakistan passed to Iran last week, as “their wishes” and said the Trump administration is attempting to do through the plan what it has failed to achieve by force. "As long as the Americans seek Iran’s surrender, our response is clear: Far be it from us to accept humiliation."
