U.S. President Donald Trump claims it's a big day for World Peace, after announcing he was rowing back on threats to 'end civilisation' in Iran.
In a post on his Truth Social site, Trump confirmed he will suspend strikes for two weeks as long as the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
The ceasefire came just before Trump's deadline. The Strait of Hormuz, the pivotal waterway through which a fifth of the world’s oil is transported, has effectively remained closed for the last month as the war continued.
Now Trump says Iran has proposed a "workable" 10-point peace plan that could help end the war.

- Inside Iran: ITV News reports from the ground in Tehran as Trump's deadline draws closer
- Date posted
- Description
- US President Donald Trump has offered a new harsh warning, as Iran rejected the latest ceasefire proposal.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said Tehran wants a permanent end to the war, and it has conveyed its response to the US through Pakistan.
But a regional official involved in the ceasefire talks says the efforts haven’t collapsed, saying "we are still talking to both sides".
The response comes ahead of a deadline set by President Trump to begin bombing Iranian energy and infrastructure.
Iran and the United States received the draft proposal calling for a 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as a possible way to end the war, according to officials.
They say the proposal came from Egyptian, Pakistani and Turkish mediators working to halt the fighting.
They hoped the 45-day window would provide enough time for extensive talks between the countries to reach a permanent ceasefire.<...

Trump has issued such deadlines before but extended them when mediators have claimed progress toward ending the war, which has killed thousands, shaken global markets and spiked fuel prices in just over five weeks.

- What does Earth look like from Artemis II?

- NASA astronauts have released a new photo of Earth from space and sent a message back home to their families.
On Friday they left the Earth's orbit - something astronauts have not done since 1972.
The Artemis II mission will be a 10-day trip around the moon and back, without landing on the moon's surface.
Nasa has said Artemis II will help "explore the moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build the foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars".
If successful, it will pave the way for Artemis III, currently planned for 2027, which aims to land astronauts on the moon using a lunar-lander version of SpaceX’s Starship rocket.

Iranian state media reported on Thursday that the country’s B1 bridge, which is under construction and reportedly the tallest bridge in the Middle East, had been attacked.
Two semi-officials news agencies reported that several people were killed.
Later, Trump posted video of a bridge collapsing on Truth Social and urged Iran to "make a deal".
Trump posted the footage on his social media platform, saying it was Iran’s biggest bridge and threatening “Much more to follow.”
It was not immediately clear if the footage Trump shared was of the B1 bridge.

- Ever since he began his war on Iran, President Trump has never demonstrated that he knew how it would end.
Having failed in his overnight address to the American public to give any more clues, others are now trying to decide for him.
Iran insisted today it was ready and able to keep on fighting - maintaining that it had secret stockpiles of munitions - and arms factories to keep on making them.
Trump said last night he needs two or three more weeks to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age.
In the meantime, Iran maintains its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz. Again, no one knows how that will end but the Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper co-ordinated an online meeting of forty countries to discuss how to bring that about.

- Ryanair boss warns airline may cut one in 10 summer flights unless war ends soon
In an interview with ITV News, chief executive Michael O’Leary said that if the war in Iran doesn’t end “by the end of April”, he expects European airlines to start cutting scheduled flights.
“The Strait of Hormuz has been closed for 30 days. If it remains closed for 60 or 90 days, then we’re all facing an unknown scenario, and we are certainly looking at maybe having to cancel 5%–10% of flights through May, June and July,” he said.
O’Leary explained that airlines won’t be able to choose which routes to cancel - cuts will depend on which airports suffer fuel shortages.
He said he expects to have only a few days’ notice from jet fuel suppliers, making disruption hard to manage.
Despite that, he urged passengers to book summer holidays “as quickly as they can”.

- Date posted
- Description
- Four astronauts have set off on humanity’s first flight to the moon in more than 50 years on NASA's Artemis II mission.
Cheers erupted from crowds at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, as the powerful rocket successfully lifted off on Wednesday evening at 23:35pm BST (18:35 EDT) from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
Hurtling into the sky at speeds of more than 26,000 miles per hour were Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission specialists Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.
Five minutes into the mission, Commander Reid Wiseman saw the team’s target: “We have a beautiful moonrise, we’re headed right at it,” he said from the capsule.

- What will Artemis II 10-day ride in space look like?
- Date posted
- Description
- In the history of our planet, that first landing of men on the moon in 1969 was, and still is, one of the greatest stories ever told.
Tonight in Florida four astronaut-successors - one woman and three men - are strapped into their cramped seats ready for lift off.
It's supposed to be happening in just over an hour. In the last few minutes, NASA has mentioned a technical hitch.
Assuming it's still "all systems go", the mission will not include moonboots on the ground this time but it will pave the way for those who follow in their footsteps to plant their feet on the moon's stony surface in missions to come - and ultimately leapfrog to Mars.
NASA's live pictures show the astronaut's tiny capsule perched on top of 3 million litres of fuel - the most powerful crewed rocket ever constructed.
It will take them from Cape Canaveral to the far side of the moon.
During their 10-day journey they will travel further fro...

- Is the war in Iran about to be over?
- Date posted
- Description
- President Trump has implied he has something significant to say about his war on Iran - by planning a national television address in a few hours' time.
It could at least clear up some of the usual contradictions at the heart of his pronouncements today. If he's calling it a day, that won't come a moment too soon - for his allies in NATO who he threatened to split from.
He's barred by law - a law first proposed by his Secretary of State, no less, but that hasn't dimmed his rhetoric. It left Sir Keir Starmer saying he'd pivot to a closer security relationship with Europe. And it is not a moment too soon for the people of Iran.

- Description
- For more than five decades, humanity has left our Moon untouched. But in just a few hours' time four astronauts aboard the spacecraft Artemis will - weather permitting - set off for our lunar neighbour.
And while they won't set foot on the lunar surface; they will travel further from the Earth than any other human in history, as they complete a 10 day trip around the Moon.
So, could this herald a new era of space travel for humanity? And has the US entered into a new space race?
Also on the programme:
- President Trump has implied he has something significant to say about his war on Iran - by planning a national television address in a few hours' time.
- Sir Keir Starmer says that dealing with the war "will not be easy" in his latest response to US-Israel's war on Iran.
- 'Awful April' is among us as today marks the day when we see all household bills go up
